    NFL Combine Invites

No surprises here! Some good analysis of our boy Sack Daddy.

Graded as a 6.11: "Should become instant starter."

Jazz will also be in attendance.

This score will likely make Ferguson a late 1st round or early 2nd round pick. Last year, Alabama's OLB Rashaan Evans graded a 6.10 and ended up being drafted with the 22nd pick of round 1. Of course, other things have to be considered besides the grade.

Hopefully his show is good! But a 6+ looks to me like 1st round quality, as far as I can tell.

His talent and production can easily get him into round 1. The one thing that is going to hurt him is the fact that this year's pass rushing class is extremely deep and very talented at the top. Fortunately, most teams feel that you can never have too many pass rushers, so as long as the need is there and he doesn't blow the combine, he should stay in the round 1 to top half of round 2 range.

La. Tech's Jaylon Ferguson disinvited to scouting combine

The NFL has rescinded Louisiana Tech pass rusher Jaylon Ferguson's invitation to the scouting combine after a background check turned up an off-field issue that made him ineligible under the league's policy, sources tell NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero.

Ferguson, the NCAA's all-time sack leader, was convicted of simple battery his freshman year at Tech following a fight at a McDonald's. As per the rules, that's enough to take away a combine invitation. The NFL told clubs last month players would be barred from the combine "if a background check reveals a conviction of a felony or misdemeanor involving violence."

Ferguson also received a public intoxication charge while in college. A potential first-round selection, teams have already begun reaching out to schedule visits. Those will increase with him not going to the combine.

Wow! I didn't see this coming. So, does this mean Holtz was "turning a blind eye" to "public intoxication" and simple battery?

Of course not. And that's the exact point I was trying to make to some of our very highly rightous fans --particularly those critical of Art Briles-- on another thread. This stuff can happen to any school. Don't ever forget that. I'm sure some of our players have been involved in a lot of stuff we don't know anything about.

Without knowing any of the particulars of the fight at McDonald's, it is impossible to know if this was some juvenile pushing and shoving affair, or something much more serious. Hopefully it was an isolated incident that won't cause Jaylon any problems making it in the NFL.

I remember it, it was a brawl and they handled it internally -

Luckily he has been a model student athlete since then and it served as much needed wake-up call that he appears to have taken to heart

That’s why I always say whistle when you walk by that graveyard

Cause hardly any of our stuff gets out in the open

I wonder what they are going to do about Devin Whites rap sheet and sexual assault

    Re: NFL Combine Invites

This is total garbage to disinvite a kid for a college fight his freshman year. Pure over the top clueless NFL crap and I have already read some articles stating such. Jaylon may have cause to sue the NFL over it too, given that they do not ban players from actually playing in the NFL with criminal records. As for the self righteous fans wagging their fingers...shut up. It is a miracle that many on this board didn't spend a night or two in Ruston City Jail when we were there.

The "convicted" part is troublesome. Did he plead "Guilty" or "No Contest" to make it go away without a lot of publicity? If it was something relatively minor, maybe the charges could have been dismissed, or "pretrial diversion" utilized. Or perhaps having the charge expunged would have been in order. It makes me wonder about the legal counsel he received. I don't know what his family's financial situation was at the time, but it's possible funds were not available for legal counsel.

A lot of good questions. I wonder about the PRACTICAL counsel he received. I could have gotten this expunged years after the fact and this crap today never would have happened. Sounds like they didn’t consult ANYONE, at any time, who knew wtf to do.
