I'm pretty sure that ad has been playing for a long time.
There is no reason to have ads in the newspaper or in the phone book. Nobody uses either.
Billboards, Radio, TV/Internet, Social Media. There's your best bang for the buck. (And word of mouth still beats them all - which is why our entire focus needs to be game day experience. Do it big, do it right)
I've listened to every road game game except the UTA series. I've never noticed that particular commercial until this past weekend. It was played often. The mention of other schools is what got my attention. The old ad rule says that a person needs to hear it seven times. Maybe this was the second series they played it. I realize TNS has had ads playing during our games for quite a while.
Tradeouts should be a tit-for-tat. They should never dominate a broadcast. Each partner should monitor the trade so a fair trade is occurring. If the TNS ads dominate a broadcast we oughta have promotionals on every pager of the newspaper . . . every day.
So . . . when there are lots of tradeouts, what does that mean? Less and less paid ads.

Funny you should mention that. I think T-Mac should strongly consider hiring some big time entertainment for the pre-game tailgate concert festivities. We already hire low level local entertainers, and they do their business between the TAC and JAS before every game. But I'm talking about hiring somebody that would draw a big crowd on their own (e.g., Trace Adkins, Brooks & Dunn, Tim McGraw, Jamey Johnson, Toby Keith, etc..). NASCAR does this before every race, and IT WORKS. (I saw ZZ Top at a race in Ft Worth.)
Seems to me, this would be a great way for LA Tech football to be introduced to a whole new sector of fans. We could pick up a lot of walk up traffic on game day this way.
Sounds like a fantastic idea, maybe we could sell it as a charity event to the performer? Have the performance in the TAC, give half proceeds to charity, and concert ticket equals a general admission ticket or something...
We could even have the charity be something which the Biomedical Engineering faculty at Tech supports/researches, so we could have the event help support the academic side...
