    Re: Turn Off the NFL

Out of curiosity, how is the National Anthem racist? Francis Scott Key wrote a poem to describe what he witnessed when the Brits were trying to capture Fort McHenry, but failed. Actually, the Americans had both slaves and free blacks fighting on our side. I don't think the Brits had any black soldiers there, although they might have since the Brits had black regiments from the West Indies. Several such black regiments did fight for the Brits at the Battle of New Orleans. But then we had both slaves and free blacks fighting for our side at New Orleans too. One of the best units Jackson had at New Orleans was a Natchitoches battalion of free blacks (many of whom owned slaves) under Major Plauche.

Anyway, back to our Anthem. There was no effort, by either side, to single out blacks, like...oh! there's a bunch of blacks over there, let's all turn our cannons on 'em! Key's poem, the lyrics for our Anthem, was all about a battle. It was irrelevant what race a soldier happened to be. "bombs bursting in air" and sending shrapnel screaming toward the ground doesn't seek out skin color.

Well, Key was a slaveowner, and I think they are talking about the verse:

“No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave,“

Which some have interpreted to refer to the British practice of hiring slaves to fight on their side in the war of 1812.

So what!! Every nation allowed slaves (especially Islamic countries) and many still allow it and are slave owners. But guess what? America doesn't and hasn't in FOREVER!!!
Feel free to forgive yourself and your family tree to rid your guilt trip.

Yes, BOTH sides had blacks in the War of 1812. But, know what, none of that matters anyway. Again, present-day socialist-anarchists don't care about the plight of blacks 200 years ago. It is just an attempt to undo America TODAY by trying to discredit America's beginning.

You asked and I answered. The person that wrong the song and the song itself accepts the notion of slavery and racial superiority. Why should we hold such a song sacred?

Except that we don't use the offensive verses, if indeed they were really offensive instead of just being interpreted that way many, many, many years later. We use one verse of Key's song for our anthem. 99.99999999999 percent of those arguing that the song contains offensive verses have latched onto that argument as an afterthought after some activists dug up the non-used verses and publicized them. This is just a red herring, and you know it. Despite the en vogue hate for Key from the left, the story of how he came to write the song which was adopted as our anthem has been, and continues to be, very meaningful for people who love their nation and do not look for reasons to tear down every piece of its history.

Yeah, but don’t be surprised by the fact that some people don’t hold that piece of our history sacred.

And an attempt to steal money (reparation) for those individuals and families in America that have earned it and have no connection to the slavery issues that happened 200+ years ago or world wide forever.

    Because we can! Nuff said.
We should America care about black spiritual music, black rap or jazz, ebonics or the holiday Quanza or however you spell it? Because we can and do.
It's part of our countries heritage now like it or not.

Can you imagine a mass white protest to eliminate Black rap "music" (vile and degrading to women and their own culture for the most part) on the radio/TV and events?
    Double standard you think????

Yes, as well as any of the time in US history where blacks held a subservient state.

Why should we? What's sacred about it? You --and people like you-- didn't hold a "piece of our history sacred" when people like you tore down Confederate Monuments. So are you suggesting this "sacred" stuff is just a one way street now?

So you are one of those that cherish our racist past?

Racism by today's standards is difficult to define...

Blacks, no matter what they actually say, can't be considered racist.

Whites, no matter what they might actually be thinking are racist because of their skin color.

White guilt is a brilliant movement.
