Report: Saints Fined $500,000, Lose Draft Pick for Not Wearing Masks During Celebration

Sources inside the NFL reportedly told ESPN that the league fined the New Orleans Saints $500,000 and a seventh-round draft pick after locker room videos surfaced of the team celebrating their 38-3 victory over Tampa Bay without wearing masks.

Locker room videos showed quarterback Jameis Winston, coach Sean Payton, and linebacker Demario Davis, among others, dancing and celebrating the win. The game marked Winston’s debut against his former team.

Roger Goodell does seem to have it out for the Saints. This is absurd. So, the NFL is now fining teams for celebrating??

Folks, this is a bunch of people who have too much money. Most companies wouldn't just lay down and accept a fine this big. 500K is real money.

Wait until Goodell watches the film and finds out those guys spent 4 hours slamming into one another without masks! The horror!

Driskel didn’t exactly invite the entire QB roster to his house for a cookout... The Broncos lax enforcement of NFL policy got them where they were today. That’s all I mean.

First team since 1998 to have more INTs than completions.

Although I'm happy with the result - I gotta say I am in awe of Denver's "QB" fill-in. Zero practice reps, no prep besides a pat on the back, facing one of the NFLs toughest defenses, and he got up every single play and got back to it.

Kendall Hinton. UDFA as a WR, but he played QB at Wake Forest. Then thrust into a QB situation at the last second.

Whew, talk about throwing your players under a bus. Broncos ought to have told the NFL to pound sand, we're playing our QBs who aren't actually sick.

And I think he only played QB as a freshman. Denver would have rather have played an assistant coach at QB but the league said no. The wholw thing was kind of silly, postpone the game 2-3 days if the other QBs are healthy, they play. But this way things, if not interesting, were pretty comical.

The league's reasoning was actually solid on that - if teams can just promote players from the coaching staff then that's an easy place to park extra players.

Of course, it was their silly rules that made it an issue in the first place.

Yeah I read that and it makes sense I guess. Not sure that would have happened much this year with the expanded practice squads with no restrictions of who you could sign.

And also correct is all the COVID rules made this an issue in the first place. Also some games have been postponed, while other teams have to play no matter the circumstance. Some teams fined and lose draft picks, other no issues at all.

So why is it the Ravens/Steelers game can be moved all the way to Wednesday of this week but the Broncos are required to play their game as scheduled with practically no QB?

The Broncos were not required to play. They chose to play.

Well, I guess the Broncos are doing all they can to land a high draft pick.

They asked the league to reschedule and the league refused so it was either play and have a chance or forfeit and take the auto-L
