Lots of good things going on. If they plan to add approx. 15% more students, School/State are going to have to unleash Dr. Jim King in order to get the infrastructure in place by 2020. I know we have replace Wylie tower, new student center/bookstore, new apartment style dorms planned to replace the older residence halls, a new engineering building drawn up and ready to go, multilevel parking garage and other projects in the plans with 2020 only 3+ short years away.

That puts enrollment at 14,287 in 2020. Need to step it up to about 4.3% a year to get to 15K in 2020.

Taking a base of 12,700 in 2015, 3.5% growth each year gets us to over 15,000 in 2020. At least that is what the Excel spreadsheet shows.

The student center has been woefully inadequate since I was there. It was originally built in the late 50's for a student body of about 2000. They expanded it while I was there and added the bookstore wing with the bowling alley underneath but it was probably outdated by the time they finished it.

Well, technically you only have to do that if you plan to have the infrastructure in place before the growth. If you plan to use the resources provided by the growth to fund infrastructure, including personnel and faculty, you may have a few years of chaos.

Kids today like shiny new things, not old moldy rundown facilities. If you build it they will come!!!!!

It was completely gutted and renovated in 1987 and will be completely renovated again in a couple of years. Tolliver - just steps away - was also completely renovated and reopened in 2003. Those two can handle what's their now. The plan for the Student Center renovation is supposed to account for a higher enrollment. Also, there will likely be some type of food service component as a part of the building that will replace Wyly.

his is what Tech submitted to the state in pdf. form last year. It's not easy to make out. California Avenue runs along with bottom of the photo. You can see what's planned in the areas of Aswell, Adams, and Dudley and the remainder of that corridor.

I was in Ruston recently and was happy to see all the improvements to the campus. One thing that jumped out to me were all the newly planted trees which was badly needed. However, I was disappointed to see the trash dumpster near Davison hall right next to the road is still there. I was a student from 2000-2005 and can remember having to walk by that thing on the way to class and thinking what an eyesore it was. Wonder why little things like this go unnoticed by administration especially when Tech is trying so hard to attract Louisiana's best and brightest.

Would love for a developer to invest in the area of California/Adam street at the south entrance of campus. It doesn't look good with a rundown Tire/Rim place and a sad looking Subway shop.

Agreed. It's a shame that the "entrance" to Tech has to look like that. It definitely should be better.

    It was 12,414 in 2015 and 12,694 for Fall 2016, a 2.3% increase.
