Speaking of Doyle Adams, I didn't realize his son Doyle, Jr., was about to be a Bulldog too.

Doyle Sr was a two-time All-Conference selection and an honorable mention All-American DB for Tech, who received the President’s Award. Adams Sr., still holds the Tech career interception record with 16.

Such a great athlete that was only able to play one year due to an untimely death. He was amazing to watch and would have had a great NFL career IMHO!!

Let's try that again on the correct thread and the right brother:

I wrote in David (not Danny) Lee of Minden. He was a punter at Tech in the 60's. Played 14 yrs in the NFL & 12 years at Baltimore. Played in Super Bowl III when the Colts lost to the Jets. And again in Super Bowl V when the Colts beat Dallas. Still holds the Colt record for longest punt at 76 yds. In the Tech Hall of Fame. Worth a read:

Even if I wasn't a Minden guy, I'd still agree with your assessment of Lee's abilities.

But I believe they are wanting to honor the top 50 Bulldogs who actually played in The Joe.

The first game in what eventually became known as Joe Aillet Stadium was September 28, 1968 (hence its 50th "birthday" this year). Lee wouldn't have played in The Joe.

Where on campus were football games played before 1968?

I voted for Willie. He played at least 2 seasons ('94 & '95). He had a monster season my Freshman year, and then the monsters inside of his head got to him. That was a punch in the got hearing that he'd killed himself.

    Nice problem to have.
Tbh, I think a lot of those "All-American" honors are dubious. It appears our SID counts any random selector that puts one of our guys in the "honorable mention" list as an "All-American." Hence, why our SID never claims the selector nor which team (1st/2nd/3rd) or honorable mention.

The NCAA only recognizes 3 consensus All-Americans for Tech at the FBS level:
    - Willie Roaf
    - Troy Edwards
    - Ryan Allen

Then the NCAA recognizes these pre-major college Tech 1st Team All-Americans:
    - Garland Gregory (pre-JAS)
    - Mike Reed (pre-JAS)
    - Terry Bradshaw
    - Roger Carr
    - Mike Barber
    - Fred Dean
    - Matt Dunigan
    - Doug Landry
    - Walter Johnson
    - Glennell Sanders

Then Ray Holley is recognized by the NCAA as Tech's only Academic All-American. A former JUCO!

So all of those are legit All-America honors.

I wouldn't put too much stock in the others unless they give us better info. There's a big difference between being named an AP 1st Team All-American and CollegeSportsMadness.com all-America honorable mention.

How many can you name that played in old Tech Stadium (that didn't play in the Joe) without looking at the Tech Hall of Fame. Of, course Phil Roberston comes to mind, but I don't think he was particularly good. At least not in the top 50. Coach Mick, of course and David Lee.

To my point, just an hour ago Malcolm announced this:

While we await the announcement of the NFCA All-American teams in the coming week, congratulations to @LATechSB @morgan_turkoly for being named 4th team All-American by College Sports Madness. https://bit.ly/2IX1qtB

That's not exactly a legit All-American honor, but to our SID anyone who is 1st-4th team or honorable mention by any random selector like CollegeSportsMadness.com is considered an "All-American" and goes down in Tech's record books the exact same as a consensus All-American like Willie Roaf. I'm 100% in favor of touting our honors and accomplishments, but we should be honest about what we are claiming by saying precisely what it is. If we are too embarrassed to put "CollegeSportsMadness.com 4th Team All-America" in our record books, then we shouldn't be calling some of these guys All-Americans. Calling everyone an "All-American" diminishes the legit honors. JMO

In fairness to Malcolm, that would make us the only university to be honest about their accolades. We're hardly unique.
