I predict a winning season next year.
Wins - SLU, North Texas, at UTEP, at ODU, Charlotte, USM, at Rice.
Losses - At Miss State, SMU, at NC State, UTSA, at UAB.
A 7-5 regular season record followed by an early season bowl game, which could provide an eighth win, which kicks in an automatic one year extension for Skip if memory serves correct.
This schedule is called a Skip Holtz special.
I always predict 7-5.
It's hard to get excited about that.
LA Tech has always prided itself on winning conference championships. We have 25 in football, perhaps the most of any CUSA school. But we need one in the worst way right now. I'm not even sure our fans understand the mediocrity we're wallowing in right now. Most of them think we're good.
Yes, we're tied with UNT with the most conference championships in CUSA. We're 13th nationally.
HogDawg--you are correct..been following for 50 years...we always have peaks and valleys...but SH has peaked and run his course..it's boring offensive football, and it's just offensive period! He's tight with right folks. Only way I see it changing for now is if he'd be the RAH-RAH guy and let an OC run the show--just too much ego involved, won't happen...Tech was ALWAYS KNOWN for some pretty good air raid type offensive teams...even if they lost they'd be exciting...it's so predictable now I can almost call every play before the ball is snapped and I never coached one lick..our one potentially bright spot is the new AD..he might be able to really "pep up" the game day atmosphere anyway..I have 4 season tickets, had them for years, but it DOES MAKE ME CRINGE a bit now when I have to fork that over plus give to LTAC for parking, etc and KNOW I'm not really getting a good deal! Well, time will move on, and things change, but by the time we have a HC change we could be so far down it would take awhile to recover...the sad part is seeing us getting absolutely hammered by another school in La over the COA...we could fix this I believe, and quickly, but not seeing any sense of urgency...maybe it's because I'm not involved on the inside, I dont know..well, have a great day to all!
Oh man please do not throw that on me.
I will explain how I came up with 7-5. Skip’s record at Tech is 61-41. I break that down with regards to opponent. We have played 46 games against opponents who finished their seasons with above 500 records. In those games we are 14-32. We have played 56 games against opponents who finished 500 or below or who were FCS teams. We are 47-9 in those games. In other words, we usually beat the bottom feeders and usually lose to a team who shows a degree of competence.
Looking at next year’s schedule I predict North Texas, UTEP, ODU, Charlotte, USM and Rice will have losing records. SLU is an FCS team. So, there are 7 easy wins.
I think NC State SMU, UTSA an UAB will have winning records. Mississippi State is beatable by a top G5 program for sure, but I doubt we will be up for the task. So, I count 5 loses.
Never was very superstitious when I played sports as a kid, except in baseball. In baseball I had a few very dumb superstitions. My son’s high school soccer coach his senior year was superstitious. By the way he was told halfway through the season he would not be returning. LOL
I hear you, but we have not lost to a G5 team who finished the season with a losing record since WKU in 2018. As far as UAB goes, since they restarted football in 2017 they have been playing championship level chess, while we have been playing checkers. Our come-from-behind victory over them this past season is one of the best wins in Skip's tenure, if not the best win. We can hate them all we want but, the fact of the matter is Bill Clark can flat out coach. We are at a huge disavantage.
Don’t get me wrong I want to win em all. Is that stat a team that finished the previous season with a losing record or the current season we beat them in? Ex. I don’t foresee USM being as bad as recently and we still struggle with them almost every year,
I won't purchase tickets until I know we can tailgate and I know they will do away with the 8:00 rule.
Current season. I also want to win them all, but just cannot see that with Skip as head coach.
As for USM being good this year, not sure about that. Being on your fourth headcoach in three months, not sure how quickly being good again is going to happen. Alot depends on their QB situation. If their transfer from Louisville is ready to play I guess they could win big in this conference. His QB coach at Louisville described him as a deer in headlights, so not sure how quickly he will be ready. But, CUSA is not the ACC. A deer in headlights could win here, he did have eight P5 offers in his 21 offers.
Whatever happens football should be fun again next season.
