La Tech is 3-3 for the season. The players are 3-0. Holtz and his staff (whatever staff is allowed to make a contribution) are 0-3. Thats as simple as it gets. When it comes down to coaching making the difference, we lose.

Skip Holtz should resign. His schtick is not working anymore. He's over the hill. He can't respond quickly enough to changes on the field. You can stick a fork in him. He's done.

    Re: @LATechFB Falls Late - latechsports.com

For far too many years Holtz has been coaching his team down especially the QBs (unless they just didn’t listen... Sokal & Driskel out performed his limitations, then ran the offense their way, not Holtz’s way). Jmar got progressively worse for his years under Holtz coaching until he was finally so sorry that he smoked his team off. I think in the case of Anthony, Skip has scared him into not throwing or running for fear of a turnover or injury. Just like he did with JMar. Meanwhile Allen isn’t the starter because he’s worth at least 1 TO per outing.

Holtz is incapable of developing 2 QBs at once. I don’t know why, he just can’t do it. It may have to do with his over-coaching.

On the whole Holtz coaches hoping the other team loses. Even Tech could beat their opponent badly he doesn’t do it. When the coach sets the standard of ‘we’re only going to play and execute enough to barely win’ then that’s what the team is going to do. If they ever dare play better than that, Holtz sabotages their effort with his ‘calling a truce’ play calling.

Tech football is past its prime under Holtz, we’re getting progressively worse and we never, ever, ever over achieve in a significant way. We don’t even try to. Don’t think for a moment that the players don’t know this. If we can see it on the field then they can feel it in practice and in the games.

Each year our talent is getting less and less. Each year our coaching is getting worse and worse. It’s a formula for long lasting disaster.

Tech should be at least #2 in the state in every sport but we’re not. Maybe we have a chance to change this with Wood in charge, but he’s going to have to be great at his job to do it. The problem is that Tech complacency stands against him. We’d rather not hurt people’s feelings than excel.

Great post. I agree, that we are on a downward spiral that started some time ago. And it picks up speed as we go down. Now we're losing to the "UTSA's" of the world, which is quite embarrassing for fans from a "football school" like LA Tech.

The bigger point is, every Dawg has his day, and Holtz's days of great coaching have clearly passed him by. He's horrible at making adjustments. In fact, he's so horrible at making adjustments that he not only doesn't make adjustments during a game, he doesn't make adjustments BETWEEN games. He just keeps doing the same old crap every game. Never mind that a play --like that stupid sideline bubble screen pass-- didn't work in the last two games, he keeps running it anyway. Holtz ran that same play a minimum of 10 times last night for total of 15 yards gained. He repeats his mistakes, and doesn't learn from them. Most Tech fans don't have the time or energy for that nonsense. He needs to just do the right thing and resign.

I seriously doubt Dr. Eric Wood will do anything this season for 2 reasons: 1) He's BRAND new at LA Tech, and he'll want to do his own personnel evaluation, even if it is at our W-L expense. 2) I don't think Wood has ever hired or fired anyone. Seems like he has always been on the level just below the hiring and firing. This is one of the HUGE downsides to hiring a guy that's an "up and comer". He's never really done the dirty work before.

Higgins must have been an anomaly then. I miss Sokol-Driskel-Higgins.

Yes, I’ll never forget it. In most games we were very competitive and in many cases leading at the half, but were being severely outplayed in the second half. When he was asked about it, Bicknell made the infamous statement “halftime adjustments are overrated.”

And he still managed to hang on a head coach here for 7 years, compiling a 43-52 record.

Using this guideline, Skip is golden.

I wonder if now JB3 would be a good head coach for us...ya know with all his experience he’s gained since leaving.

I’d like to see Tech do something like what they did in the days of head coaches A.L. Williams and Joe Raymond Peace, hire a Tech guy! Under both of these coaches Tech played fun and exciting football and overachieved at times which is an undiscovered country under Holtz. Surely there are some Tech guys out there somewhere with a special passion to come home and do great things. I’ve always thought Matt Dunnigan would be great at Tech. Surely sometime soon he’ll be ready to leave the great white north for the warmer South. The same is true of Tim Rattay, get him back once Holtz is gone.
