So, exactly what were these injuries? I mean.....4 months is a very long time for 2 players to be out with injuries. Personally, I broke an ankle back in 2013, but I was back doing everything (from an athletic standpoint) in about 2 months. (No jokes, please. LOL!)
I figured both players would try to get a medical redshirt this season. That's smart. But.... this also looks like just another way for Konkol to bleed another year out of us. Again, I don't know the extent of the injuries...but geez, 4 months is long enough to heal just about any athletic injury. We need players TODAY too.
I disagree. When you lose 2 starters (and 2 of 3 elected team captains), that's 40% of your starting lineup. I wonder how we would do losing 9 of 22 starters in football after 3 games. I'm not giving Konkol a total pass though, since he totally missed on McKinley and we currently only have 12 on scholarship (13 allowed), and a transfer sitting out. 12 - 1 (sitting out) - 1 (bust) - 2 (injured) = 8 serviceable players.
The cardiologists haven't cleared Christon to full speed yet - better safe than sorry
Jean's foot the best way I can describe it - the original surgery when they placed the pin and screws for the broken bone - the doctor put the "tension" too tight in the repair and it caused constant pain to the point he was unable to function on it and they shut him down and started over -
Both are expected to be cleared over the summer to return to full speed and should receive a medical redshirt
''Don't be a bad dagh..."
Hence, Konkol gets another season...
Now if we can only keep our AD from extending his contract over the summer...
In all honesty we should be a contender for the top spot next year, but I think Konkol has to make some moves...We need a legit big man and McKinley isn't it. Get a grad transfer for a year.
What are the odds Jean grad xfers elsewhere? maybe closer to home? Isnt this why Q had to xfer to Indiana State?
0-20%, but I have heard that one or two players may go on academic scholarships to open spots for incoming players. Q tore his ACL two years in a row, and they were weren't sure if he was going to be able to play again. The coaching staff helped get him to Indiana State when he wanted to keep playing and we were full. As of right now, the staff 100% plans for Jean to get a medical redshirt and return.
FWIW, the coaching staff told me he was playing somewhere in the Middle East (I honestly think they said Iran, but I could be wrong) professionally and they still keep up with him.
Thanks. And I didnt mean to infer it as a negative towards the staff or Q regarding his situation, just that it was an unexpected medical redshirt when there were no available schollys. Q had several big games in Iraq...Im pretty sure I saw at least one 50 point double double.
