What does memphis have? The basketball team is not going to be making many more Final 4s without calapari. (sorry if i spelled that incorrectly) and the football team has proven once again that it is garbage and will continue to be. They have a large market but thats it. And they will never go to the Big East because their academics are terrible. With the renovations of the stadium and the hopeful improvment of the football program and continued succes of men's and woman's basketball i would say Tech is hands down the better school and athletic program when compared to memphis. Hot Rod's BBQ is better than memphis as well haha. Maybe i wouldn't go that far. Just stay on your on board and stop wasting everyones time.

The WAC still has a men's basketball auto-bid. If Hawai'i leaves that bid is in serious jeopardy if not gone altogether.

The Pac 10 will almost certainly not fill all of its bowl bids most years if it tries to maintain 7 bids. The Big 12 will almost certainly have to drop one of its 8 bids or it may have more than one bid it can't fill each year.

Serious. If they leave it will save us untold amounts of travel money. As long as Boise, Fresno and Nevada were in the WAC the Hawaii travel could be tolerated as a price to pay to be in a "better" conference. Without those schools, the diminished reputation of the WAC does not justify the Hawaii travel. Even though any Hawaii replacement would be of lesser reputation than Hawaii, the reduced travel cost would more than offset any further reduction in WAC respectability.

The WAC has already been broad-sided. Any further damage can only be at the margins.

I agree, Hawai'i leaving would significantly ease our travel budget, particularly in years the baseball and softball teams have to fly to the island.

Their 1-5 record in the Southland doesn't matter. What's really important is that Texas State has the best on-campus football complex in the WAC today. :icon_wink:

Shows me they take winning seriously, and won't tolerate under-performing coaches. Tech has NOT been able to say the same thing over the years.

Besides, I think Tex State was decent last year....

Why would our auto-bid be in jeopardy?

6 teams must have played together in a conference for 5 consecutive seasons to maintain an automatic men's basketball bid. The WAC will only have 5 after 2011-2012. Under current rules there is a 2-year grace period, so the bid would not be lost until 2014-2015. That is also the same academic year that the new BC$ contract kicks in and all of the action from the current cycle of moves (still very much in progress) should be completely settled.

I didn't know which thread to ask the question, but how great are the odds that ESPN tries to renegotiate or get out of their TV deal with the WAC in the next year or two?

ESPN will not have Boise, Fresno, Nevada, and (most likely) Hawaii after two years to fill the entire 16 game WAC schedule, including 9 conference games, for the ABC/ESPN/ESPN2/ESPNU networks.

It is awful to have such thoughts, but, I hope we don't get "JOked" again and see ourselves being "passed up" by the newbies in 5 years.
