I just don't buy into this good friend with smu and rice thing. Sure, the probably don't hate us, but I don't think they would bend over backwards to help us out. What's their to gain by supporting us. We just haven't taken care of things ON and OFF the field to make us attractive to anybody.

UTEP - It's about 50/50. On the one hand, I think Conference USA has really worked out well for them. I think that they like being associated with Texas schools. But I think that their primary rival is and always will be New Mexico and if they have the opportunity to go back into a conference with UNM, I think they at least consider it. From there I think it's a question of what their accountants have to say.

SMU - I would say that there's no way SMU goes, but they may be motivated by the same thing that motivated BYU to leave the MWC and feel the need to do SOMETHING. So I consider it very unlikely, but not impossible. However, SMU leaving doesn't help you because UNT would probably leapfrog everybody as the replacement team in order to keep our toe in the DFW market.

USU - Would go if asked, but probably will not be asked. I think the MWC stays at 10 with an 8-game conference schedule. I think the purpose of asking Hawaii all along was that they knew that they were going to lose TCU and pre-emptively replaced them.

    Montana - Wouldn't that be a hoot.
This is why UTEP goes if offered. Being in the same Conference with New Mexico will be too attractive plus they will be able to reduce costs otherwise.

Also, basketball continues to drive the bus at UTEP and the MWC is better overall than CUSA for basketball. If the MWC also adds Utah State, they come fairly close to off-setting the losses of BYU and Utah in basketball.

i am curious whether New Mexico will try to black-ball them though.

    They do NOT want UNT.

    I know people at SMU.

They will leave for one thing...Bc$ AQ. They have plenty of money and an unlimited pocketbook to pull from.

Their one goal is to be in a conference with Bc$ AQ.

Preferrably Big XII so the old money can relive the SWC.

You mean the cheating and the death penalty?

Seriously, the Big 12 needs two more. Who are they?

According to BVDV, he'd like that to be Tech. Of course we know it won't happen, but I applaud him at least acting like we belong. I'm not worried about our administration right now and am giving them the benefit of the doubt on trying to get us into the best situation possible. Onward and upward, folks!

    +1

I do wish we would have played better recently against KS and TAMU....

Will Air Force opt to go indy...like Army and Navy? It has to be a possiblity.

Either way, with/without AFA, the new MWC is the old WAC, just as has been predicted by several of us.

A conference with Utah, BYU, Boazy, and TCU all together would have been a nice football league. But, it never had a chance of happening. Not ever!

The conference indicated they don't want to add any teams from their existing markets, so that rules out pretty much any school in their existing footprint of states. That leaves???

    Arkansas?
    Air Force?
    Colorado State?
    BYU?
    Memphis?

Past that you have to go way outside of the footprint or drop down and consider at Louisiana Tech or Tulane and hope that the conference could help build the program. They are in a tough spot expansion-wise if you consider that conference unable to steal anyone from the Pac 10, Big 10, or SEC.

Arkansas and BYU are the picks here, but not sure that UA would jump back. I used to think they would in a heartbeat, but now not so sure about that. If not UA, then maybe Memphis for basketball? I doubt that either of the Colorado schools are attractive enough to the Big 12 for them to invite.

Honest question. Why would Arkansas leave the "Big Poppa' Pimp" SEC?

This.. why would Arkansas go from an AQ conference to a non-AQ conference? Totally backwards move if they did.

Big 12 is still an AQ. I don't think Arkansas would leave though. Never have.

There are many UA fans (older ones who remember the SWC) who would love to play Texas every year. Plus they have not had near the success in the SEC that they had in the old SWC.
