Is Frank Scelfo headed back to LA?

"Rickey Bustle was told on Friday that he is out as Louisiana-Lafayette coach, the Lafayette Daily Advertiser reports, though an announcement will not be made until Monday. In addition to Ed Orgeron and Joe DeForest (see below), FootballScoop.com reports that the Ragin' Cajuns may also target Arizona QB coach Frank Scelfo, a Louisiana native and Louisana-Monroe alum who has been a high school coach in the state and an assistant at Tulane and Louisiana Tech; and that Arkansas offensive coordinator Garrick McGee, an Oklahoma native and OU alum who has no ties to ULL or the state of Louisiana, has interest in the job."

I wonder where Shannon will end up as a DC. That guy can recruit and runs a good program. He might get another HC gig, but I think he might go the DC route again first.

He would be my 1st choice for DC if we decided to make a change, but I suspect he will end up at a much higher profile school as a DC. Although I could see he as a HC at a non-AQ school too. Not sure that he would take that route though.

And no, we were not looking at a hot shot "high school" coach!!:bigcry:

IMHO, the man that fit that criteria was Jim Leavitt of South Florida fame, or Francionne. Both were very interested in the job. Then there was interim coach Mike Canales, a fiery guy that got the players on track, won 2-3 games as an interim, and really wanted the job at North Texas. His post game press conferences and post game locker room speaches to his players were inspirational. Good guy who will be a very nice catch for some FBS or FCS program. When fans realized that McCarney was the chosen one, fans and students really pushed for Canales.

I hope McCarney works out and he can get the players to "buy-in" to his program. This will be a defining period in UNT football history, what with the new student fee kicking in, the new stadium, etc. A lot is riding on this hire. Hope it works out.
just found out that Conroy Hines was released by McCarney. prayers go out to his family and that he will find another job soon.

If this comes about (right now I would give it a 50/50 chance), it is going to be a lot of fun to watch:

For name recognition I think Sonny D should bring him in as a receivers/QB coach to help him. Can't hurt in recruiting circles unless high school kids are afraid of the dark, and sheds or being in a shed in the dark (shutter)

Conroy was a coach everyone wanted McCarney to keep him. Hines did a good job for UNT.

BTW, I think McCarney will do some good for North Texas. His record looks dismal but he had some real successful seasons at Iowa State. Remember, ISU was a 1-11 team for several years before McCarney took over and got them to five bowl games.

Frank Scelfo is not a candidate and he will never be on a Ragin Cajun coaching staff. Interviews are on-going this week and I think the Cajuns have some great candidates. The Cajuns will be paying about 400-450K for the head coach. This combined with a raise for the assistants, (already the 3rd highest paid staff in the Belt) is making the job attractive. The indoor practice facility and the planned renovation of Cajun field also sweetens the deal a little. The talent cupboard is also not empty this time as it was when Baldloss left. The formation of the RCAF is already paying dividends in this particular coaching search. Cajun T is keeping us updated at the Cajun Scout Website in case anyone is interested in following the process.

I think they will make a good hire this time.
