I remember reports coming out that we hired him last year.... the same day it was later announced that it was Sonny Dykes that we hired. I was kind of disappointed that it wasn't Wilson.

I'm right there with you. I was surprised it was Dykes after hearing all the news about Wilson.

However, I am just now realizing that Wilson was the OFFENSIVE coordinator at OU. I have always thought he was the DEFENSIVE coordinator. Dykes was probably the better hire. I just thought we needed a defensive guy to build on what Dooley had established. I think we wasted this year trying to change shemes too dramatically. Oh well, we should be better next year at least.

How many times have I heard that in the past?

Even though he quit this spring, I figured he would be around for a while. I guess Mullen is already on his way to Gainesville. Does that mean Dak Prescott reconsiders?

Maybe he'll go to Florida. I know I'd rather be in Gainesville than Starkville.

Brent Venables is the defensive coordinator. We heard a lot about him a few years ago when just about anything opened up (probably the source of your confusion), but then it all went quiet. I wonder why.

My OU friends seem to be glad to be rid of Wilson. Watching OU games (my wife is an alum), it was incredibly frustrating how they seemed to be incapable of scoring touchdowns when they got into the red zone. I think Indiana could have done better. Venables would have been better, for that matter.
University of Houston '01. Any references to "we" or "us" likely refer to UH. Cheers!

It wouldn't surprise me if Florida took a pass on Mullins for the same reason everyone seems to be passing on Leach (and why he never upgraded from Texas Tech). Mullins is a good coach, but he's not necessarily the guy you want as the "face" of your established program due to his temper (during the UH game, he had players holding him back over a relatively inconsequential penalty call). If you're Mississippi State, you don't care. But if you're Florida, you might want someone a little cooler.

    But who knows?

    Touche!

I'm not as sure that they would hire Spurrier today, though.
