And we are still sitting in park with an old model T ford while everybody else is racing with Porsches and Ferraris. Break ground on Q4E NOW! Put out a plan for future campus expansions or we will be left behind!!!

"There's a huge risk if an institution leaves its geographic proximity and rivalries. In the long run, it can create a lot of problems."

This was a stupid statement by the Big12 Commish. He act's like they would be joining the WAC or something. LOL. In actuality A&M fits very nicely into the SEC West and the travel would be fairly light. Now as far as the rivalries go, I think LSU/A&M, who already have a history, would quickly become a rivalry. And while UT might threaten not to play them I think any break would be short-term as fans would demand that rivalry continue. A&M vs. Arkansas would also be a nice rivalry. I wonder if OU goes with them. OU/LSU and OU/ARK have the makings of a strong rivalry as well. I could see a lot of good old fashioned hate developing between those 4 schools. It would make for good football. UT could go Indy. They could play Notre Dame/BYU and the other Texas schools like TCU/T-Tech each year and not skip a beat.

The schools that would be hurt by this are the Iowa St's/Kansas St's/Texas Tech's. I could see Texas Tech actually ending up in the MWC. OR I could see the remaining Big12 schools picking off schools from the MWC and then the remaining MWC schools hooking up with what is currently the WAC. The PAC10 could pick off some schools as well. They have been pretty clear though that they are not impressed with Texas Tech from an academic standpoint.

Don't forget about Baylor....... They will be in the worst shape of any of the remains. No aq will want them. In fact, they may get in our way, if they don't find a home. Now, this is all if the B12-2 all falls apart.

What I see is A&M and OU leaving. The rest pull from CUSA/MWC/and YES - Louisiana Tech. Why not? We have heard this before. Also, take away 2 more of those B12 left overs and our chances are really good. Some MWC teams won't want to jump, if they have a chance to be aq.

I also think if the SEC goes to 14 and the Big12 in disarray the Big10 might swoop up Mizz from the West and then someone from the East to make 14.

Won't happen. Only way OU is going they would have to convince the Oklahoma legislature to let them go without taking OSU with them in what in effect would be a dying conference. Lots of money made in this state because of the Bedlam Series and not just in football.

The OU athletic department also has several top notch programs in other sports that the SEC does not have that would also have to be addressed like men's gymnastics and wrestling that have strong alumni support here that sell out Lloyd Noble Arena every time they have an event. In fact it is because of the presence of the two wrestling powerhouses (OSU and OU) that the national championships will be held in OKC in two years. The legislature isn't going to blow that kind of economic boost.

Will say one thing though, the Big12...errr Big 12 minus 2....uhhh Big 12 minus 3 better do something quick or he can say goodbye to his AQ status.

Re: Rick Perry Texas Gov says A&M considering SEC

I work with an A&M alum who played football there and he says this is happening! HE also reminded me that besides LSU & Ark, they have strong ties to MS State & Alabama (remember the Bear????) and that they would be the only game in town (state of Texas), so all of the SEC schools are for it to get at the recruiting! He also said that they are talking to Fla St & Clemson on the east side?????? They will most likely stop at 14 since they only want to play 8 conference games a year (6 in their division & 2 from the other rotating each year). Also the UT game will go on, they just aren't sure if it will be at Thanksgiving yet or not.

On the B12 front, he and I think that they will go get BYU and Air Force and maybe one more (TCU????) to keep all the other happy and keep the Horns from going Indy. He is hearing that Kansas & Mo. are talking to the BE?????? The talk shows here are saying that as well.

Re: Rick Perry Texas Gov says A&M considering SEC

I don't think that the Big Ten needs any sort of disarray to get Missouri. They're there for the taking. That they haven't taken them up to this point suggests that, at the moment, they're not wanted.

I think that Dr Twister hits the nail on the head for OU. The OSU thing is a problem. If the SEC wants OU, I think they would have to consider OU, OSU, and Missouri to round out the 16. If Billy Liuchi is to be believed (I'm not sure he should be), OU isn't really in the mix right now.

I disagree with Dr T about AQ status. They're a legacy. They'll get the same benefit of the doubt that the Big East got, and they have BYU waiting in the wings. The biggest threat to the Big 12 is that it just implodes. If enough teams leave, they can vote to dissolve the conference on their way out. The real turning point would be the Big East.
University of Houston '01. Any references to "we" or "us" likely refer to UH. Cheers!
