But wait... there's more: http://espn.go.com/college-sports/st...e-talk-simmers
Anyone have any recommendations on how not to let myself get carried away with this? I'm open to suggestions. The Big 12 believes it could withstand the loss of A&M with Texas and Oklahoma remaining as anchor schools. If A&M were to leave, the Big 12 could consider Houston as a replacement to the TV market.
University of Houston '01. Any references to "we" or "us" likely refer to UH. Cheers!
I've said this elsewhere, but if I'm BVDV and DR, I'm calling every Big 12 school that's not Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas, and Texas A&M, pitching the idea that you can offer TCU/SMU/Houston, and Louisiana Tech, still have AQ status, and get an academically excellent school in Louisiana.
At the very least, CUSA hears about Tech reaching higher, makes them second guess picking other schools before Tech when a position opens up
SHOWme the MONEY!
SEC in Texas will be a whole new ballgame, just think of all the possibilities.
Keep telling yourself that the worst will happen (that not only will you be stuck in CUSA, but it will be a weakened CUSA that has lost some of the better schools). That way, if something good happens (like a BE invite) or something amazingly great happens (like an invite to the Big 12ish) then it will be an awesome surprise. And if status quo reigns, you're still happy because it could be so much worse. And if the worst really does happen, at least you were prepared.![]()

When the MWC and BE rumors swirled and died, I had to remind myself consistently: Wait, I *like* Conference USA. A lot of my fellow Coogs are pretty down on it, but all in all it's not a bad place for us to be at all (granted, my time here gives me a whole new appreciation for it...). But then I head "BIG XII!" and it all changes. The hardest part about it not happening is the fans shrieking about how we should drop football or join the Southland.

Well, this helped bring me back to earth. Kirk Bohls: "Top names UT, I mean Big 12, will consider from several sources: Notre Dame, BYU, Air Force in that order."

University of Houston's ace in the hole is its city. 6 Million people/potential TEXAS viewers in the nation's 6th-largest media market. I think you guys are in a very good position to get that invitation.
I'd also be very surprised if the Big XII stops at 10. They need a little bit of insulation...if the SEC is going to 14 and then to 16...the Big XII HAS TO think their survival is in danger if they stop at 10.
