I know we are not Texas, but as a standard by which to compare, Texas is going to the Holiday Bowl in San Diego and is taking every football player, including all walk-ons, all band members and every associated spirit group.

Well it appears the Facebook "petition" has been deleted. Damn I was looking forward to reading that. Found this little nugget while searching for it: http://www.reddit.com/r/CFB/comments...o_support_the/

Lots of comments from other bands regarding travel to away/bowl games. Looks like Tech isn't the only one who can't afford to send the entire band. Also lots of props on our successful season.

Texas gets it. This is not considered an expense to them, but an investment. I'm sure they ask their alumni to help if they are short on funds. Invest in getting the kids to the game and make them a part of the experience and you likely have a donor and fan for life. A lot of these kids maybe have never been on a plane much less to the west coast. The other part of the investment is the bragging rights. Tech brings a big contingent, future bowls will relish the chance of inviting Tech. The bigger contingent looks good on TV and ESPN is happy. Perception is important. We are WAC Champions we should respond like we are.

I heard Texas' athletic budget is almost 100 times greater than ours. It's amazing our team can compete with them at any level.

What?! You are passing on watching a football game in San Diego?!!!!!
We knew that we wouldn't have many fans attend, that the band wouldn't go,.... but who cares about that nonsense.

Wednesday night in San Diego baby!

    Diminishing returns ...

There is a finite amount of football wins. At some point, each additional dollar invested yields smaller marginal results.

Their band is probably bigger too. I think the point is that bringing our band is achievable. This is not some unreasonable thing. It just requires that those in charge care enough to make it happen. Its a transformational moment. We should make the most of it.

    THIS!

This is the problem with the bureaucrats everywhere (and in Ruston). The "it takes money to make money" philosophy doesn't make sense to them. Somebody way more important than me needs to contact BVD & set up a meeting to get some organization to all of this madness. And LFR, go to the game. You have gone way over & above to support Tech.

If you have the pull to get the ear of someone in the administration that can land us a meeting with the powers to be I think that all of this nonsense can be worked out quickly & efficiently without further damage.

The funny thing about what I say is that, as an alumnus & working in Shreveport, I out of all of the wonderful alumni on this board, can probably least afford to be able to donate but I believe Tech can benefit from my organizational skills & I just may be able to land a major sponsor from Shreveport to help. This potential sponsor has their name on building & atheltic venues here in the city. It is someone that already supports LSUS & LSU. Also a major contributor & supporter of Centenary College but has pulled back support since they have downgraded to D2. In fact, Learfield, BVD & DR have missed many potential donors &/or opportunities here in Shreveport/Bossier.

While I agree with your point, UT does not need to ask alumni to help. Just like LSU doesn't. They make a killing from BCS money, charge more & more for tix every year, make demands of their season tix holders (TAF Fee) for the privilege of renwing your season tix that will cost more every year. They are good at hearding the sheep. And the sheep follow. I sure wish that we could do this one day.

You don't have to raise $150,000 in two weeks. You borrow it and pay it back later.

While what you are saying makes sense to most people...it does not to the bureaucracy. It makes about as much sense to them as Monroe Schools closing schools & sending busses to New Orleans to help get their residents out of danger. Naggin didn't get it. Hell, he let his own city's school busses get flooded because they were not good enough to carry his people out of town. His people's busses had to have AC & a bathroom.
