Reports earlier today said other sports for SDSU likely headed to Big West. BW does not want Boise who is now working on deal with WAC.

The UTEP AD was interviewed a couple of weeks ago and said they would likely be shifted West. He said without SMU and Houston in the conference he has no problem with it.

That's pretty big news from our vantage point. You got a link?

So, that means there is potentially one (1) spot available if the CUSA-MWC Alliance decides to join forces.

If not, there will be 3 spots available in the new "post Houston" CUSA (not counting any movement by UTEP), and potentially 5 spots available in the new "post Boise" MWC. Both scenarios assume each conference wants to get to 12.

In some sort of sick cosmic symmetry, Boise State's non-football sports could be headed back to the WAC. It would be extremely weird if Boise State football is the Big East and all the other Boise State teams are in the Big West.

Is there any doubt this (eventually) ends the WAC as a football conference, at least, with the MWC needing to fill so many spaces?

Not yet, but the fat lady is warming up.

The writing was on the wall when Benson picked up so many non-football schools in the last year for all the other WAC sports. When the MWC and/or CUSA make their moves, those moves will be the final nails in the WAC football coffin.
