"It's not due to budget cuts. Reneau has funded athletics by whoring-out the football team during his entire tenure. It spares him from having to conduct what is supposed to be one of his primary responsibilities - university fund raising."
AGREED!!
That -
And he is a bird in pocket guy, even if the bird is a sparrow...
I do know that Bruce had numerous scenarios to have the game in Ruston through "out of the box" ticket packages for the game which would have gotten us in the ballpark on the monies we could of expected if the game was in Shreveport, but once again the micro manager that resides in the 16th floor chose the easy way out...
An NO ONE can convince me that Sonny thought this was a great idea - trading Lamar in Ruston for A&M in Shreveport/Ruston...
That said - as a "fan" I would much rather have a chance to beat A&M anywhere than Lamar in Ruston
''Don't be a bad dagh..."
BTW, I too would rather play this game in Ruston.
I would rather play A&M in Shreveport than Lamar in Ruston.
By playing A&M in Shreveport instead of Lamar in Ruston, we will most likely lose:
- the student section
- tailgating/gameday experience
- Dawgzilla
- home field advantage
- odds are... the game.
- chance at a BC$ bowl and everything that comes with it
What would we gain:
- the ghetto
- logistical mess
Shreveport is already part of our market, and this will have no bearing on a C-USA/Alliance invitation. Our fate has already been determined.
Shreveport sports fans have proven to be apathetic over and over and over again. We will gain no more casual fans by playing this game in Shreveport instead of Ruston. The majority of the casual fans that would attend this game in Shreveport are the LSU fans so they can chant "S-E-C! S-E-C!"
It's about scheduling for success. You don't trade a game that you are a 50-point favorite at home for another game in which you are "neutral site" underdogs, especially when running the table likely means a BC$ bowl.
You also don't schedule OOC games as a "measuring stick." That's the dumbest reason I've ever heard to schedule a game.
BTW it's not "small time" for us to play in Shreveport. That's been our alternate home for almost a century according to our media guide.
Before somebody else brings it up, this has anything to do with being scared of A&M. It's about being smart. Of course we can beat them, but odds are we don't.

I agree 100%!!!!!!
And still it's only a rumor at this point guys. The number of my fellow Tech alumni that are Negative Nancy's/Debbie Downer's/Henny Penny's still amaze me. It's truly embarrassing! Granted practically all of us would all rather play this game in Ruston. But if it's in Shreveport then grab a set, buy as many tickets as you can for the game and cheer like you've never cheered before. I do want school to be in session ...I will say that for sure due to student body attendance! We can beat these guys and this is the year to do it! Shreveport used to be, and feel, like a major home game and it can and will be again. Now get your act together and pretend like you've "been there and done that" before because universities do this type of thing every year. And again, it's only a rumor at this point.
Somebody please explain what the parking problem is in Shrevport. There's 10 times the parking there than at JAS.
