Is the new Cabelas in Allen or Plano? (It's hard to tell the cities apart)
It's in Allen across the street from Top Golf.
Dang, I can remember when you knew you were in Allen by the trailer park that sits on the east side of 75! That was it!
1997 (my brother in 1992). Yeah, the school's focus has always been on basketball. That is something really difficult to explain to people ("Wait, you went to school in Texas and you went to a *basketball* school?"). Back when Bill Krueger was coach, the school had a really, really hard time recruiting football coaches despite being a great school. High school football coaches in Texas don't take well to playing second fiddle to the basketball coach. I think things slid after Kreuger retired, but the current coach is actually Tommy Penders, the son of former UH (among many other schools) head coach Tom Penders. Tom the Elder goes to games, I hear.
University of Houston '01. Any references to "we" or "us" likely refer to UH. Cheers!
I could see CLHS from my window in the (what was then) McDonnell Douglas building when I lived down there.
Very true. That's why some folks pulled away from Allen ISD about 4 or 5 years ago and formed Lovejoy High School. Lovejoy is a 3A high school made up of kids from 7 different cities, including Allen, Wylie, McKinney, Plano, Fairview, Lucas and Princeton. I live about 2 miles from this new Allen High school stadium on the Allen HS campus. But I'm in Lovejoy ISD. I now live in the farthest most Northwest corner of Lucas. My neighbors directly behind me are in Fairview, and I'm in Lucas. The people across the street from me live in Allen.

HD, When are you going to get the recruiting pipeline going between McKinney ISD and Tech?
Howdy, almost neighbor...
I would estimate you live about a mile from me. I'm about a mile east of the new stadium, definately within walking distance.
The one big school issue definately limits opportunities for some students, particularly in athletics & some of the support roles (e.g., drill team, cheerleaders, etc). As far as academics goes, it really doesn't because AHS has plenty of classes of all types & levels available. It someone doesn't participate in what they say they want, it's probably because they didn't make much of an effort to enroll/register.
By the way, what you explained about the make-up of Lovejoy HS proves one important point. That being... when you move into one of the cities around here you better make absolutely sure what school district you'll be in or you could end up being very disappointed, angry, etc.!
I live in Stonebridge and one side of the street is FISD and the other is MISD. They do overlap quite a bit around here.![]()
