What did you expect LSUS to do? Have a stuffed riverboat pilot on the graduation stage?

In other words you're saying that "real" LSU alums don't care if their "brand" (and I mean diploma/degree) is watered down.

The Times-Picayune doesn't understand why the LSU System killed the merger.

But Rep. Carmody said that without 70 votes, there's little choice but to push for the LSU-Shreveport Commitment Plan, which calls for a "system-wide strategy to provide new and updated academic programs to meet the educational needs of the Shreveport-Bossier region.'' That goal, according to the plan, is to be accomplished through online teaching and agreements with community colleges and a consortium of public and private universities.

The plan lists several new degree programs for the school, including a bachelor of science in petroleum engineering, something interim LSU President Williams Jenkins said could help anchor LSU-Shreveport's identity.
So......LSUS is now going to try to get approval to offer a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering? The same program LA Tech dropped not too many years ago?

Okay it's official now. There's a bunch of crazy people in Louisiana.

Yep. I guess the shock of Tech getting into CUSA finally wore off, or he stopped taking his meds again.

It doesn't get watered down. In all the official rankings, only the real lsu br results are used. So they maintain high rankings. The peons are only used for their $$$ at their own expense. Too stupid to even realize it. For employers, if someone lies and said they went to lsu but really is found out to be a lsus grad, that only knocks the person and in a way lsus not lsu br.

When speaking in terms of perception - I mean, the everage cornhole fan isn't exactly high on anyone's list - unless it is another cornhole fan anyway.

    Nope.

LSU A&M plans to somehow offer their petroleum engineering degree on LSUS's campus via online courses streamed from Baton Rouge.

They say that it won't cost LSUS any extra money because they have all the faculty and resources they need in Shreveport for the first 2 years of the curriculum even though Shreveport has no engineering faculty, labs, or equipment.

They plan to figure out how years 3 and 4 of the curriculum will work at some point down the road.

The problem is that engineering cannot be done online. Engineering is hands on and collaborative.

It would be an LSU A&M degree, and the students would have to pay LSU A&M tuition and fees.

Marsala and LSUS need to be publicly called out by the Shreveport media for this. That's pathetic and unacceptable. Now that the merger is dead for the session, "pilot pride" dies with it.

Re: The (LA Tech/LSUS) Merger Thread II

This whole thing is just sad to me. This was a really good chance at strengthening the NWLA area and building up programs in LA. I'm just disappointed with all of it. But, then again, when I heard LA politicians were going to be ultimately responsible for the decision, I figured something might go wrong. Our great state doesn't exactly have the best track record when it comes to doing what's best for the state. But oh well, at least we're not dead last in education, right?
