Big Ced loves Tech...as does countless others. Well, in some cases "love" may be the wrong term. But there is tremendous respect for Tech across the state and region. I have been well, floored! by some of the compliments I've been privy to, coming from some sources I never would have thought. Goes to show you, some people can set aside pettiness and honestly convey sincere observations. The truth is the truth.

One correction, NSU has not offered Hogue a position. But, they are considering it.
I heard today he's not been offered a position at Tech either, but he might be up for more than one. He might just get the chance to stick it to LSUS.

This is a "must listen" interview... Be sure to listen to both segments...

Dave Gustavson was behind this... Pathetic. It's crappy administrators like him who LSUS should be firing.

Anyone else besides me find it slightly ironic when Hogue said to the effect of "...this just goes to show how out of touch the administration of LSUS and the (LSU) administration in Baton Rouge is with what we're doing around here..." on a Shreveport radio station called "The Tiger"

It was hard to even view their webpage with all that purple and yellow. Nevertheless, great interview, love the passion and resolve of Mr. Hogue, and I wish him all the best. I have a tremendous respect for anyone that can see the "Big Picture," and just based on the interview, it would seem he gets it. If The University feels Hogue would be a good fit for us in some capacity, I hope they can work something out for him.

There are plenty at all schools. But, to remain accredited colleges/programs can have only so many non-PhDs.

There are two types of credentialing: 1) AQ academically qualified - holds highest degree possible for that field (terminal degree) and meets standards for publications, which is usually like 3 publications every 5 years. Every school sets their own standards, but they have to be approved by the accrediting organization.

    and

    2) PQ professionally qualified - works professionally in the field he/she teaches. Example: a medical doctor with an active practice who teaches biology in a pre-med program.

The rules allow some "O"s too. That stands for "others" who are neither AQ or PQ. But, it is very limited.

Most rules for accreditation requires something like 90% Q coverage. Meaning if a program has 20 faculty positions, 18 of them MUST be filled by a qualified person, and they can hire two "O"s.

Only if Tech has enough AQ and PQ can they afford to hire someone like Hogue.

Wow, they blamed the dismissal on not having enough money.

I work with an LSUS grad and her words were, "LSU is shooting themselves in the foot." (yes, she calls it LSU)

She actually said she thought some folks would follow him if he got picked up somewhere close.

One of the many comments on the article in The Times...

Unbelievable! How is it if you disagree these days, chop goes your head. It doesn't matter how much you do for students, how much students love their teachers, it is either you say and do as we tell you to do, or you are out of here. Thankfully, there are other schools these students can attend. Our flagship university is sinking itself.
These folks think LSUS is just an extension of the Baton Rouge campus... Unbelievable!

Re: The (LA Tech/LSUS) Merger Thread II

LSUS had already defunded most, if not all, of their non-academic support programs, such as the SBDC, a research department, etc.. And, LSUS will probably be laying off more non-credentialed instructors. As will other universities across the state.

Posted about the credentialing process and how it relates to accreditation. Several universities, such as LSUS, Nicholls State, Southern are on the shakiest ground and are the first to implement further needed dismissals. But, other universities will soon be doing the same thing.

Now, does that mean Hogue needed to go now vs. someone else? I don't know. But as an "O" Wayne Hogue's job was always at risk....year to year.

BTW, NSU is about to offer a person with a PhD for their open slot and will not be contacting Hogue, for the reasons already discussed.

Since dawg80 worked diligently and passionately against the Tech/LSUS merger, he should find it easy to solicit the aid of senators Peacock and Adley, to whom he offered encouragement and support, to find a job for Mr. Hogue.

I don't get why Dawg80 isn't for the merger being a Tech alumn?

I'm not certain I support it. The quality of the majority of the students there are not up to par.

Big difference between not being sure if you support it and aggressively working for its defeat.

Only the 2,000 currently enrolled would be grandfathered in, once the merger goes through anyone wanting in would have to meet Tech enrollment standards. Part of the legislation did require that we work with Grambling/NSU/BPCC to have on campus classes that would transfer in for those that don't meet the higher criteria.
