Do we not have an alumni base that could pool $2000 together to buy a new mascot? If it has to be done through SGA, surely the money could be donated to SGA. I personally hate the idea of SGA handling anything, especially something of this magnitude.

Donations were collected from the alumni for Tech XX and could be done again. I received a signed print of Tech XX for making a donation - he made a nice paw print!

I will not contribute this time unless structual changes are made regarding the mascot. I too don't think SGA should handle the mascot. If Tech is unable / unwilling to handle a live mascot in a first-class, ethical manner, I don't want us to have a live one.

No communication, seems like no action is taking place. I think you may have some complain about the process or it being too long, but many would be content if we just knew what was happening and that progress was being made.
    COMMUNICATION! What a novel idea.

Some might consider having the dog being raised and living with a vet as first-class but it didn't save XX. What conditions would you consider first-class and ethical?

Finding a home of a local alumnus that is committed to taking care of the dog properly (I am not an expert on caring for a bulldog) and seeing that he makes events. We could still use student workers to transport and handle the mascot as they do today assuming they have been trained in handling the mascot. We should have the mascot present at more functions i.e. home football, basketball, softball, baseball, convocation, homecoming parade, area events where kids are present, etc.

Ethical means ensuring the mascot's health is never threatened when its taken to events and living with the caretaker. This may mean we need an air-conditioned house at the stadium or not parading him around in the heat, but have him at the TAC prior to football games.

Exactly. Tech XX spent >99% of his life with the vet and his family. What did the SGA do that wasn't first class or ethical?

I have been at meetings where this was discussed. I believe more details will come out once the paper work with the USDA is complete and approved. I also contributed to Tech XX and love the print and paw print, have it in my office.

No, regarding SGA in general. I don't know of anything personally that SGA did wrong with Tech XX, other than not bring him to enough events.

Hey guys, as a current member of SGA I can assure you that we are all working as hard as possible to obtain a new live mascot. Unfortunately, the mess that occurred with Tech XX made things complicated (as it should, what happened was awful, something I think we can all agree on). What we are doing and where we are getting the dog from, its blood line, etc. are being watched very closely. Money is not the issue here, its politics. I know that things aren't moving very quickly, but with all the precautions being taken I am confident that the new live mascot will be with us for years to come, and we will never have to experience a tragedy like what happen with Tech XX ever again.

A 4-month-old Border Collie has been dropped off (abandoned) at the Natchitoches animal shelter. Maybe aTm needs another collie. Someone give this dog a good home!

Thanks for the update. Unfortunately, my experience with SGA while I was at TECH has made me very skeptical of them accomplishing anything in an ethical or timely fashion. I hope your group proves me wrong.
