If the I Bowl is setting its sights on stability they need to sign a deal with a conference other than the SEC. They will never be anything but the last fallback plan for the SEC.

By "richer history", they mean longevity. This definition means the I-Bowl has a richer history than bowl games like the Alamo Bowl, Outback Bowl, Holiday Bowl, and teh Copper/Insight/BWW Bowl.In any case, some of the onus will continue to fall on this community — just like it has for 38 years. Only 10 bowl games have a richer history.
Is the natural progression for the I-Bowl to go from hosting teams like Georgia, Texas A&M, Missouri, UNC, Air Force, and GA Tech from 2009-2011 to hosting teams like ULM and Ohio in 2012 (no offense to Ohio)? Is the natural progression to go from a prime-time TV slot on ESPN in 2008 to a 1:00 TV slot on a Friday afternoon on ESPN2? Where is the progression that Setters is taking about?“People were disappointed last year,” Setters said. “And we were too because we couldn’t get an SEC or ACC team. Although we had two teams that loved to be here, and we enjoyed that, there is a natural progression and you want to put yourself in a position to get the best picks you can.”

The number that stuck out to me was $23,876 in tickets revenue.
At an average of $40, that is 600 tickets sold by Ohio.
No matter how you place blame, this quantifies the cost.
when the ft worth bowl folded , they did not pay the teams. NCAA required I-bowl to guarantee the payout. 4 people signed a person guarantee to save the bowl. One person involved has served as pres of Tech alumn association --he also brought cowboys and saints for scrimmage game to shreveport. He has brought saints to shreveport twice, he actively recruits all Tech folks to join i-bowl committee. He has more contacts with ADs-coaches etc than you can imagine. There would not be a bowl without all the volunteers. Understand, I am as frustrated as anyone ( with exception of players) about the fiasco. Question is replaced by who?? anyone can join, volunteer for committee. Sponsor is Tech grad. Lets get more volunteers from Tech and see what happens
Be careful what you wish for. Now that Memphis/Tulane/ Rice etc are bailing from Con USA and Old dominion coming-- the bowl tie ins will probably disapear. Liberty Bowl has conference champion BUT under no obligation to take. With memphis gone that bowl could dissappear. next up is Hawaii bowl. What if I-bowl got involved with conference USA? I would prefer not but calling it a toilet bowls belittles our wins in the toilet bowl-- truth is, San Diego feels same way you do about Poinsetta bowl. I was out there and there committee was awesome but folks living there had no idea Tech and TCU were playing. Get rid of all the "toilet " bowls and leave only the 12-14 "good bowls" and I'll probably never see another Tech bowl game in my life. Its about -Fans, money , conference tie ins-- I hate being a realist but we are a long way from the type of bowl games we want to be invited too -- no sense belittling the one we have been in the most. Just ties us to "toilet bowl". ULL has been in new orleans bowl 2 yrs in row--pay out is half of what i_bowl pays .
you and I both graduated same yr (1970). I hung around and taught at Tech as grad assistant. Since 1977 Tech has played in 6 bowls --I-bowl 4 times, Humanitarian and Poinsetta. I have made all 6. Thats 6 in 35 years. without I-bowl , it MIGHT have been 2 in 35 years . I have always been proud of those appearances and the tremendous support of Techs fan base--we set attendance records -- I have never considered those as "loser" or "toilet" appearances.
