That sounds a LOTTA bit like a "YOU people" type of statement. Who, exactly, is he referring to as "schools like Tech"?

Roy Lang: "Teams like Tech unlikely to play in Shreveport, at least on AdvoCare's watch. Affiliations will be w/BCS conf and high enough to get teams"

Shreveport Times: Advocare CEO Richard Wright said he has his eye on “three conferences with regional ties.” Asked whether the conferences had Bowl Championship Series ties, Wright simply said, “Absolutely.”
From these quotes, the Advocate Bowl is looking at three conferences with regional ties. The conferences with regional ties are the SEC, Big East (Tulane, Houston, SMU), Big XII (Texas teams), C-USA (LA Tech), and the Sun Belt (ULL, ULM). Since "teams like Tech" are unlikely to play in Shreveport, that eliminates the Sun Belt and C-USA. That means the three conferences the bowl is targeting are the SEC, Big XII, and Big East.

Even if the Advocare Bowl does increase its combined payout to $4.8 million through money from Advocare and money from the state (i.e. taxpayers), it would still be no better than #6 in the SEC pecking order behind the current BCS bowls.

I don't know how attractive the remains of the Big East will be to the Shreveport market. I also don't know how attractive the bowl game in Shreveport will be to the Big XII teams like Oklahoma or Texas.

News last night said SEC, ACC, and one other, maybe Big XII. We just love everyone else's scraps.

I wonder what the ACC's regional ties to Shreveport and the bowl game are other than the current tie-in deal. The closest ACC team to the area is Georgia Tech (I think). At least the Big East would have made some sense with the new BE teams from Texas.

(Former) Big East is probably "teams like Tech" now.

Given their obvious disdain for "schools like Tech," I wonder how this will effect any future regular season games in Shreveport. I'd be ok with never playing there again.

Our goof ball AD told several boosters that C-USA was requiring us to play games over there. I never believed that BS, but many of our fans did.

The IBowl and the stadium are different - not related except the facility. I do see what you are stating, though. Any agreement with the new Big East/Metro/former CUSA would be a slap in Tech's face. They are used to doing that, though. Why have Houston, Tulane, SMU, and not TECH (which will bring the crowd)? Then, if we are in the Big East, they will have us again.

They are being ridiculously stupid. The sooner this bowl goes away, the better. The people of Louisiana would be really dumb to support any tax that supports them.

The "Advo-NO CARE" Bowl as run by it's current management is just awful. They'll probably try to sell their tax as a hotel/motel tax paid by out-of-staters, but it doesn't matter as long as the same people are running it the same old arrogant, self-puffed, self-serving way. NO SOURCE OF TAX MONEY SHOULD BE TRUSTED TO THEM, NOT ONE PENNY.

If they get tax money I volunteer to picket the game, their banquets, etc. An no one who cares about Tech or just decent civic offerings for our area should ever buy a ticket, go to that game, have anything to do with a sponsor who condones such an organization. At one time it was an asset. Its time has now passed. Its leadership failed on its own.

    On a side note...

Richard Wright, Advocare CEO, went to school at Louisiana Tech.

Then it's really time to get into the BE so they would have to take us even at 6-6 or 7-5 some year .
