His wife is the one that endured the hard times. He kicked her out of the house with 3 young kids to take care of. He was having a big time drinking and chasing whores. She's a very strong woman to keep it all together under those circumstances.

Exactly. And that's why I would place blame on our less-than-stellar alumni outreach programs. Have we asked him to contribute or support Tech? Maybe so, maybe not. And we might be surprised by the answer.

Correct. Terry Bradshaw can tell you some stories about TECH's less-than-stellar outreach programs. For a long time....there was none!!!

Yet Terry still kept in touch and never disregarded his university. I too am proud of Mr. Phil and any other person that is able to eliminate the wasteful lives they live by whatever means it takes them to do so, but why should we give them a pass anymore than those who never have had to do so or even those who have also done as he has but just haven't become famous for wading in water and being modern versions of Grizzly Adams. It wasn't two years ago that Phil Robertson was barely an afterthought on this board even getting some disdainful remarks for his son having attended NLU, but now all of a sudden he's the next Tech great so much so that people seem to forget his less than stellar career at Tech. I'm not bashing the guy. I'm not saying he has loyalties to any other school. I am saying that he was able to get a degree to teach because Tech gave him that opportunity, and he has done nothing, as far as I know, to show his appreciation for that, and because of that, he deserves no more reverence than those we criticize for having nothing to do with Tech. I also question just how devout he is. Now those who know me know that I'm not one to cast stones, and I'm certainly not doing so now because I can't claim to live the perfect Christian life, but from what I understand, there was one episode that created a serious uproar with many of his Christian followers because of a sexual comment he made. Then to find out that he allows them to edit out his mentioning of Christ in prayers. Now before anyone says he has no control over that because it's the producer's or the network's decisions, he has every bit of control. It's called refusing to do the show if your conviction is strong enough.

If you have ever heard him talk at a church, he is very forthcoming about his wild ways when he was young. He cautions young men not to follow that path. No need for any of us to keep judging him for something he has confessed and asked for forgiveness from God. His family obviously has great love for the man he became after his early years.

You missed the most important part of my post. His wife is the one we should be praising, not him. He was almost 30 years old. A man should know right from wrong at that age.

Bleed Tech Blue and Red and don't understand the lack of loyalty of Tech GRADS. We see Lsu, A&M etc flock at every opportunity. So many of our folks go along to get along with Lsu. Just saying.
