Gotta go with Higgins! The steady improvement he showed last Saturday was truely impressive.
If Young had gotten the OL performance in front of him that Higgins got Saturday, Young's numbers would likely be much better.
At this point I am comfortable with either one starting. I would also hope that if the starter is not performing, there should be no hesitation to make a switch.
Perhaps, but the OL was WORSE when Higgins was in against Tulane. By the time Higgins got in, it was CLEAR that we had no passing threat, so the D was pinning their ears back. I've still yet to see why everyone assumes Young is superior. Is it the stars? I didn't go to the spring game. Was he lights out? I'm not being snarky, I'm really asking. A LOT of folks that I respect dismissed Higgins as FAR inferior to Young even after Young looked inadequate in the first 3.5 games.

They look pretty equal as far as talent goes. I like how Higgins tries to make plays. He will throw one into traffic where only the receiver can catch it. Young didn't seem to do that. Higgins will probably have more turnovers, but I think he gives us a chance to move the ball better.
I like Higgins right now. He plays with more energy and was more productive.(Kansas D was not bad). I like the fact that with a week to prepare as the starter he had good command of the offense. He sorta has that intangible ability to place the throws correctly. Not every one, but more than previously seen. Better Comp %, moved the team well. We will finish drives better now, I promise. The team really responded and that's all that matters.
Just curious, do you support this decision now? I remember that you were pretty adamant that this was wrong at the Tulane game. Your turnover point is valid, but I think that's the investment you make in a young qb. Rather that than absolutely nothing out of young.
When I first knew Higgins was out guy was at the spring game. I came in knowing nothing, went out raving about his playmaking abilities and his arm. I chalk his 4 ints up to inexperience. Young on the other hand, couldn't even tell you what number he wore.
The OL was bad enough in the Tulane game to get Young knocked out.
And don't count me in any group saying Young is superior. Right now it is fairly even, and if so you go with the current incumbent who also just happens to be the younger player.
But Skip should have a quick hook ready if needed this week because it may be a low possession game.
The above is what I don't understand. The numbers seem to show otherwise. Don't get me wrong, Higgins is not the great savior of the team, but they were markedly better with him on the field. The INTs have been costly (some have also hit the receivers in the hands) and the fumble was awful, but at least Higgins can move the chains.
IMO, when things are even (even though I don't really think they are), you play the younger player. I don't believe any player should have a job regardless of their play, but I don't think Higgins' leash should be short ("quick hook").

Not saying he gonna save the team this year either, but if you look at that pass to Gilley in the end zone it was perfectly placed with velocity in tight coverage. It looked like Guillot was a little surprised that it was there. To me, that's one sign of a good QB when the receivers say you better be looking because its gonna be there. That is what I saw. On the other hand the passing game goes South when the receivers don't think its going to be there. That's the difference. It leads to confidence. That's part of the reason for my optimism. Ill be more disappointed than anybody if its not so.
Fix the longer throws and we're good. I would like to see us involve King on the perimeter more.

Bottom line.....Higgins moved the ball down the field!
Unfortunutely, getting excited that we move the ball down the field against a terrible football is grounds for enthusiasm in our stituation, but the bottom line is scoring touchdowns and we got a F last week. I think this week will be different and can't wait to see how the team responses. The whole season may be in balance.
