Every appearance of this hire has the appearance that it was a rush job after USM got Monken. They "lowered" the salary from Dykes and sought a cheap hired gun.

Tech right now is not a "destination" hire. Meaning they will hire one of two coaches. They will hire a coach on the way up or a coach on the way down. I prefer the first type, 2-3 winning seasons, rinse, and repeat till you get better and better.

Please lose the "no returning starters" argument. Starters are players selected and coached by the coach. These players have more than enough experience to beat teams like Tulame. We are not exactly playing the top tier football teams. Heck we struggled against Lamar! I don't think this is players fault as much scheme fault. At our level our OL has to be quick enough to pull block. We probably would have more luck running the pistol and moving Dixon up.

We rush to the line on the majority of the plays, get ready..... and prairie dawg it. NOT ONCE have we snapped the ball. A dozen times Kansas didn't have a single player ready for the snap, but we still prairie dawg it. Either do it right, or don't do it at all.

I'm not an expert by any means on x's & o's but I do know that with the last two head coaches there was always excitement, for me anyway, looking forward to next year and how much better we can be. Now I dread what the next few years are going to bring. The NC St loss I can take, but we had no business losing the last three games in a row.

Could not agree more. The whole point of TEMPO is to actually use it every once in a while. We are great "pretenders" of tempo these days. We rush to the line and act like we're going to run a play then stand around for 20 seconds. One of the reasons I think we can't go very fast is because we have a couple of new juco offensive linemen who are RIDICULOUSLY overweight. If we're going to run an up tempo attack, no starting offensive linemen needs to be over 320 pounds unless they have proven (through the summer conditioning program and camp) that they can move and run well at that weight. The two new juco o-linemen are slow, sloppy, and clearly out of shape. Therefore, we can't even run an up tempo offense in spurts because those two will be puking after 5 plays of that type of offense. Also, with such new offensive linemen, assignment has been a big issue. There are lots of plays where at least 1 linemen goes the wrong way, steps wrong, or blocks the wrong person and you can't run up tempo if you aren't almost 95% on assignment and technique all the time. Any missed block/assignment can RUIN a drive.

Holtz has resigned to slowing the pace, trying to run the clock down, and put the game on our defense. Army attacked our safeties/corners knees all game and got outside on the quick toss and sweep and we couldn't get off blocks or run sideline to sideline to stop it. Until we can get more consistent productivity out of the offense, expect this strategy to continue and for us to look like the Bad News Bears football style.

No, he's just a Techster fan more than a Tech fan. His dream is that our football team would assume it's place below the techsters.

Lets add E1 to this also, they are the only two defending Holtz for whatever strange odd reason.

I'm not defending him. He has not shown me much. But I am willing to give him a couple of years because he inherited a very inexperienced group of players who are not playing very well yet. The jury is still out, imo.

Nick Saban lost to ULM his first year at Alabama. They didn't fire him and it worked out pretty well in the long term.

Ok now you are comparing HCSH's situation to Nick Saban's (who had won a BCS title at LSU)...

I don't think Holtz has proven he is as good a coach as Nick Saban. But he has proven he can win our conference.

And my illustration was meant to be "sometimes it's the players and not the coach."

The only time we hurryup is when we are approaching halftime or we are several touchdowns behind our opponent. When we hurryup our offense gets better, just like it did when Dykes was here- but Holtz is too ignorant to learn this.
Yup, I noticed that. We had a couple of sparks of moving the ball when we did the uptempo offense.

Also, something I wish we would do...the Wild Dawg formation.

Don't look at starters - look at returning letter winners...

While not as talented as last year, this team is far from being void of talent - especially talent that would put us in the bottom 10 of all of college football

    I will give you QB

OL has made some progress -

But point is he had more than his share of skilled position players to build around and core group to build a foundation upon...

Add to that the fact we have looked helpless against 2 horrible teams and it only gets worse

Wouldn't you agree he had more to work with than what Dooley inherited from Bicknell?
