By the looks of attendance in the stands on TV, they've already found other things to do!

For the record, Maverick, I was at the game... until halftime at least.

    So fitting.

We should hire Lane Kiffin, his high maintenance wife will really love Ruston.

I know one of the reasons used was because he was cheap, but a lot of coaches would love to get a shot at being a Head Coach for $500,000. We would have been better off hiring a high school coach than Skip. Our selection committee hired the worst coach they possibly could have hired, but they think it is so cute that he is Lou Holtz's son and that it might get us some mentions on ESPN.

Yep, we will have to suffer through more of this. Many of us know that the attendance we saw in the last two home games is about the be the new norm. We've seen it before. History will repeat.

    Re: Fire Holtz

I think we have been set back 7 years. We are back in 2006... the year Bicknell was fired. Dooley and Dykes' work is complete and we have come full circle. We peaked in 2012 and then the rebuilding left us exactly where we started before Dooley and Dykes were hired.

At this point, we can blame it all on Holtz and fire him and try someone else, or we can say that Holtz's first year was just like Bick's last year and next year it will be like Dooley's first year and the cycle will start all over.

The most maddening thing to me is that we apparently did not capitalize on the 2011 and 2012 teams from a recruiting standpoint. It seems like Dykes and Franklin would have had 3 or 4 really good QBs and 7 or 8 really good WRs and at least a few very good OL who were capable of pass blocking. Just didn't happen though.

    Re: Fire Holtz

Dykes/Franklin spent alot of time scouring juco ranks for productive guys they believed would make an immediate impact on offense. That's how they found Patton, Holley, and Greenwalt. This staff signed Griffin and Johnson. I remember noticing how few yards Johnson had last season in juco. I didn't check Griffin. But playmakers usually have a history of making plays. We're always going to have supplement our teams with juco players. I thought we found some good guys on defense, but we oversigned at db and lb and didn't bring in enough at WR, imo. Should have also brought in a qb instead of hoping we had enough already here.

Huh? You think the difference between 2006 and 2007 was some natural cycle flipping? It had nothing to do with the HC? How illogical is that?

I don't think there was a HUGE difference between Bicknell and Dooley's coaching styles. The main problem with 2006 was that we only had 2 players returning from the 2005 defense and we gave up 42 points per game in 2006. Dooley inherited 10 returning starters on defense and improved to 30 points per game in 2007. The offensive production was about the same.... a slight improvement in 2007 (from 19 pts per game to 21 pts per game).

The change from Dooley to Dykes was a lot more drastic than from Bicknell to Dooley. The biggest difference b/t Dooley and Bicknell was that Bicknell liked the JUCOs and Dooley did not.

So 2006 was a rebuilding year (Bicknell fired) and Dooley's first year was the next year. Holtz's first year was the rebuilding year (like 2006) and next year will be like 2007.

    Re: Fire Holtz

Dooley liked BCS transfers and struck out on several of them. We need Holtz's staff to find some guys who can make an instant impact. Just a player or 2 makes a big difference.

I'll say it again--I think it would be a mistake to fire Holtz at this point. The foundation of our program is not stable enough to sustain another structure. We do need this staff to prove their mettle in the off-season.
