I disagree. I actually think Todd Dodge is the anomaly in this discussion. IMO, it's pretty unusual for a guy THAT successful at the largest high school classification level to bomb out like Todd Dodge did. Yes, high school coaches fail all the time when attempting to transition to the college level. But most aren't near as successful as Todd Dodge was in high school either.
IMO, here's the big difference: Both Art Briles and Gus Malzahn served as assistant coaches for at least a short period of time at the college level before taking over a college head coaching job. On the other hand, Todd Dodge went straight from high school head coach to college FBS head coach. Dodge was truly undergoing "on the job training" while employed at UNT.
