    54,347

A new state record was broken yesterday in Texas when 54,347 fans watched Class 5A powerhouse Allen High School slaughter Pearland 63-28 to win the Class 5A Div I State Championship in AT&T/Cowboys Stadium. It was Allen's second consecutive Class 5A state title, and their 3rd since 2008.

The previous attendance record was set in 1977, when Plano beat Port Neches-Groves in the Class 4A (largest classification at the time) state title game in front of 49,953.

By the way, LA Tech should be recruiting the hell out of east Texas. DFW teams swept the Class 4A and 5A title games, including Allen (5A Div 1), Cedar Hill (5A, Div II), Denton Guyer (4A, DivI) and Aledo (4A Div 1I). The 4 teams matched a local "sweep" in 2005, when Euless Trinity, Southlake Carroll, Highland Park and Carrollton Hebron won state titles.

In all, 8 "local" Dallas area teams finished with state championships this year. In addition to the previously mentioned 4 schools, Argyle won the Class 3A Div II title, and three private high schools from the area also won state championships. Even closer to home for LA Tech, unbeaten Carthage defeated previously unbeaten Kilgore for the Class 3A Div I state title. I watched that game on Friday. IMO, Skip Holtz and his coaches should be camped out in Carthage and Kilgore until national signing day. Lots of "big time" talent in that area, right on Tech's doorstep.

Thursday the 1A title game was there in Dallas and it drew 9K. More than the combined population of the two cities playing. The local ESPN radio guys said it was also more than showed up for all but one state title game in Florida. So, I'm guessing this number blows by most high school attendance numbers.

Holtz already lost out on those Carthage kids to UNT.

Seriously, if each kid has 4 grandparents show (obviously won't happen) and 2 parents, your looking at 25k in attendance.

54k is a lot of tight high water jeans in one place. Sure it was a real Texas fest.

I was there for the Allen/Pearland game and I'd say it was at least a 60/40 split between school fans/alumni and spectators. The venue doesn't hurt attendance either.

As for the talent for the AHS/PHS game, the staff would be wise to spam the whole 2015 offensive line for Allen along with their QB Kyler Murray while PHS has a good TE coming up.

Me and my kid were there! Best sporting event in the country, hands down.

The Plano Sr line coach told my kid that he is in the competition to start at offensive guard for Plano Sr. next year and he will only be a junior. I told him if he just makes varsity then he'll have accomplished far more than I did at Minden High. Heck, starting for the 10th grade team was amazing, playing in all the best stadiums. (btw, they beat Euless Trinity's 10th grade team 34-0 and finished 9-1).

Literally, comparing the Plano Sr. program to Minden's is like the pro's to little league.

Murray started as a sophomore...for Allen...at QB. That is amazing.

Sam Tecklenburg is the TE, right? He started as a sophomore at Plano Sr. It's extremely hard to make varsity as a sophomore, much less start.
