''Don't be a bad dagh..."
But, but, but... you HAVE to have receivers that are well over 6' to be successful in the passing game! I mean, football players can't be shorter than that and be effective, can they? I mean, all the self-appointed football gurus on this site say that our receivers are too short and slow to be any good. No way they could be wrong...

Former bulldog and pro bowler, Pat Tilley was 5'-10".
Skippy couldn't hold Rich Rod's jockstrap. Like others have said, Rich Rod took off a year after he got fired. He wasn't hired two weeks later for another head coaching gig like Skippy. Rich Rod got fired after a winning season for not winning enough. Skippy got fired for being a loser. Rich Rod was brought in to completely overhaul Michigan's style of play, and he increased Michigan's win total each year he was there. Skippy came in saying he was going to run the same offense that produced the No. 1 offense in the country the year before, not a complete 180 overhaul. Rich Rod was a 7-time Coach of the Year. Rich Rod won 8 conference titles as head coach including 4 Big East titles in his last 5 years at West Virginia, the same Big East that Skippy couldn't win more than one game in. Rich Rod had four Top 25 finishes, three Top 10 finishes, two BCS bowls, etc. No comparison.

True, but I doubt Rich Rod would ever consider coming to Tech to coach. I just wanted to point out that getting fired doesn't mean you are doomed and the game has passed you by and you don't know what you're doing anymore and all past success is nullified. Sometimes, you are just at the wrong place. I think we have seen that our coaches who leave us for greener pastures often fail and are fired somewhere else. It's important to find the right "fit." That's probably hard to do. (unless it's one of the few elite coaches who can probably win anywhere).

For example: Gary Crowton (BYU) and Derek Dooley (Tenn) and probably soon Dykes (Cal). And Wasn't Torbush fired at NC? What happened to Brewer at Ole Miss?
So if we put it backwards maybe guys that fail somewhere else might win at Tech? Of course those failures were at bigger schools on a bigger stage. Normally those guys (that fail somewhere else) don't get the chance at Tech (or anywhere else for that matter).

You are not automatically good just because you are under 6'0. Richie Casey and Hunter Lee are no where close to Wes Welker.... or even Troy Edwards. They are closer to Andrew Guillot, who also is not close to Wes Welker or Troy Edwards, etc...
Yes, Torbush was fired, but he left Tech after one year to become the DC, not the HC. He got the HC job when Mack Brown left for Texas. Brewer was very successful at Ole Miss, but he and the Ole Miss AD cheated often, got caught more than once, and finally got fired for it.
BTW, Crowton, Dooley, Dykes, Torbush and Brewer were all over 6ft tall.:icon_wink:

Wes Welker would be fine in any offense because he can catch and he can make moves and he is fast, just get him the ball and watch him go. Holtz won 2 conference championships at ECU in 5 years... I would be thrilled if he could do that here. Dooley/Dykes got us just 1.

Just watched Conner Shaw roll out and throw a TD pass on a post route to a WR who is not 6'3". I bet we had the athletes to do that this year. Wisconsin had gotten pressure on the pocket, so they rolled out and chucked it deep. Seems pretty basic to me. Kind of like tackling and pass defense.
Sorry, has this been discussed already?

Not meant as a slap at T1, just watching the game and wishing, hoping, dreaming.
