What's the direct metric for "in shape"? Do you mean "football shape"? You can say wins and losses, you can say how often players were injured, you can point out that players subbed out to catch their breath, but there isn't a direct measurement.

Because I'll argue all day about the ability to push/pull 20+ more pounds than you did 2 months prior means you're more "in shape". That's from personal experience as a coach and athlete.
When defensive players have their hands on hips after the opposing offense gets two first downs and this is still happening in the 10th game of the season, they are out of shape due to poor S&C coaching.

Throughout the year we also witnessed LBs and DBs who had RBs and recievers wrapped up in perfect form tackles only to have the tackles broken for extra yardage. That's weak and goes directly to S&C coaching.

    - Don't use "suck" in any Louisiana Tech slogan.

I actually like the slogan. Why? Because it sums up our football team with Holtz. If Guice decides to keep him here, we might as well embrace it.

#EmbraceTheSuck I'm using for every loss, which will be many next season. I might tag Guice in it too everytime.

I hate the slogan. I might too "old" to get the hip meaning of it, but it says to me, we suck and we embrace that. I agree with Dawg06 --- it has NO PLACE in/around/about LOUISIANA TECH...EVER.

Remember "Major Payne"? What if some hard core military guy didn't like that our S&C coach tried to go military and whipped his butt? I would laugh.

Amen. Negative motivation seldom works. Look up the Warran Spahn / Lou Boudreaux world series story. My favorite motivational story of all times and result of negative input

agree you focus on positive goals, not wallow in pity for your weakness-- is this a real sign at Tech or something Northeast put up??

I am reading these posts in reverse order so again, this is not a tool of a qualified motivator--

Wouldn't have to be that hardcore.

    A couple of points -

On motivation: Negative motivation never works...ever. If someone keeps telling you that you suck you usually end up believing that you suck. Guess what happens next year once you get punched in the face by Auburn and Oklahoma, you start remembering all the times you were told you suck and it becomes tougher and tougher to stay motivated. Telling someone they suck doesn't build confidence.

On training: I think training for football is different than strength training. This guy trains crossfit style which means kettlebells, squats, dead lifts, WODs, etc. Think of strength without the bulk and you have crossfit style. Crossfit is great for building strength and losing weight, but I don't think it fits so much with the second part of his title (Conditioning). Conditioning means you can keep gas in the tank on every down and knowing just the amount of strength to exert on every play. I think it requires a different form of training. Players also need bulk and crossfit is not going to help you in that regard either.

Again, "embrace the suck" is not about the team. It's about training. Working harder and pushing yourself even though it sucks at times. It's another way of saying push yourself through the hard times. Embrace that it's going to suck. Accept it, know it's going to be there, and go even harder.

Read the sign and explain how that ties in to the explanation you are giving here. We all know what the military slogan means.

But it shouldn't have been tweeted because no one outside of the military, our players, and Nancy Pelosi have ever heard that saying.

Embrace the suck has been the motto all offseason. (before the sign came out).
