So, that's the best you got? I lay down some physics and you basically respond with....nuhuh.

If I'm reading that right, you're saying I don't understand physics but, conveniently, you don't point out the facts that I have incorrect.

I have a degree in Math and Computer Science and had two calculus-based physics classes at Tech. I do know how to read and understand the physics equations. I seriously thought about getting a physics degree but decided that I'd make a better living writing computer code. It was the right decision.

Oh, and I was a high school Physics teacher for a couple years before I went back and got my CS degree.

I don't think that's any less bigoted than calling Santa Claus "Santie Claus" like my niece does.

You are free to worship whoever you want, whenever you want. The constitution gives you that right. None of the anti-religious types are telling you that you can't practice your religion. We are telling you can't impose your beliefs on someone else, and also that your beliefs are contradictory and hypocritical. The same Bible passages you use to label homosexuals as sinners are the ones that forbid drinking and the eating of shellfish, but I don't see anyone protesting on shellfish message boards. I think protesting shellfish is a hanging offense in Louisiana anyway.

"until you try to force your beliefs on someone else"?
Please please please quote anyone on this thread that tried to force their beliefs.
Many of the posts in this thread objected to the hiring of a gay coach.

On the contrary, it's been the homosexual-lifestylist that have tried to force their beliefs. I'll spent time to give you quotes if you'd like.
Feel free to give me examples where the homosexuals tried to force you to have sexual relations with members of the same sex. I was unaware of such things.

And, better yet, He also forgives. But, a person has ask Him for forgiveness before He can wash those sins away. Meaning, I own my sins; they're mine till death. But, if I ask Him, He will take those sins from me and then He will own them and pay the price for them.

And, my friend, I love living life with that assurance.

Thank God, or Tom Jefferson, for the constitution.

Ok, cool. I personally don't want to do that either, kinda defeats the purpose.

ha ha, hope not...Does that mean we are imposing shellfish on anti-shellfishers?

Yeah, I don't agree with that either. The best person available for the job should get the job.

Yea, not what I meant, but you are correct, no one has tried to make me have sex with an overweight munchkin.

I really enjoy sweet potatoes. Mashed, fried, baked, whatever.

Does anybody else ever like to throw some sliced sweet taters into the crawfish boil?

I think you could throw almost anything you get out of the refrigerator into the crawfish pot and it would taste good.

The days of the program being the second highest funded program on campus is over or even funded equally to basketball are over
This is pretty much what we can reasonably shoot for in both basketball programs. Football is what our target demographic cares about, and is the one that is do or die for our university's reputation (in the athletics is window to the institution sense). Success either or both basketball program is lagniappe and keeps our names on E$PN during the football offseason. MBB can be a lottery ticket with a deep tourney run now and then. Consistent runs for conf champs in both basketballs should put enough butts in seats and ads on the screens to enable MBB to cover their expenses, and WBB to off-set theirs respectfully.

But almost nobody outside of the basketball power conferences make stacks of cash off MBB.

I admit my last post probably went overboard but after getting that warning that I was about to get banned my immediate reaction was to just LOL and go out with a little flair. It looks like I'm still around so I guess whoever wrote that thought twice and reconsidered. I'd still like to know exactly what forum rule I broke because afaic that warning was way out of line.

I also admit those other two pics I posted were a little lame and a subsitution for what could have been a much more elaborate post that I was just too lazy to write. But I do stand behind their basic message. Basically none of us here - yes, even those that teach high school physics - have anywhere close to the credentials to authoritatively talk about the origins of the cosmos. There are some pretty exciting developments recently that I've seen (e.g. A Universe From Nothing, Lawrence Krauss) which offer plausible explanations that don't involve any sort of need for a supernatural deity. But the important point I want to invoke is that it's perfectly fine to admit you don't know the answer to something, even if it involves the deep philosophical questions we yearn to understand. To me, "God did it" is not only a lazy answer, it's *boring*. It's pretty much equivalent to saying it was done by magic.

The historical path of organized religion has just been a one way street of constantly giving way to the hammer blows of science and secular morality. The people that wrote the bible had nowhere near the understanding of how the universe works that we have today. For those that claim to interpret the bible literally (as did one poster earlier in the thread), I say to you that you just don't know your bible. Either that or you truly believe that a woman who is not a virgin should be stoned on her wedding night. The bible is crystal clear about this. Does anyone who is not insane believe that little gem of morality to be true today? Of course not, and don't make me rattle off several more similar examples of which I'm sure you are well aware. The issue of homosexuality will have the same destiny once people realize it's a similar "offence" that hurts no one and that it makes for a happier society to just accept and embrace.

I will stop for now as this is probably approaching the tl;dr limit. I also hate forums as a medium for complex topics like this, it's just too clumsy. There's actually a decent chance we may make it into Ruston for Jelena's graduation (not even sure when that will be) so if that happens I invite anyone who feels like talking face-to-face to come say hi and I will buy the first round. If there's a whole gang of you, let's find the nearest nice restaurant. I'm a big fan of open conversation about important issues like this.

    Kiwi:

Yep, this forum, while tame in comparison to some, is still not for the thin-skinned. I can say, and I think I speak for most everyone here, at the end of the day we are all part of "TECH NATION" our beloved alma mater. That means we don't REALLY harbor any true ill-feelings toward our fellow posters. And, that includes Hogdawg too! He's really an okay guy in person. (just keep your hand on your wallet at all times).

Jelena will soon join the ranks of a Tech alum. And that makes her something special in all of our eyes. Congrats to her, and I wish her, and you, nothing but the best life has to offer.

I wrote the warning. Your language to another poster was way out of line. I certainly don't agree with your mocking of God, but that was not why you got warned. I am certain you will answer for that one day.

Meantime, you are still on thin ice here.
