    Re: The Positives

This game was not a game we were going to be competitive in this season, we came out trying new things on offense and testing a new qb.This is why I hate these games week 1. Watching the game I saw things that made me hopeful, but defensively our front 7 has to be fundamentally sound. Too many times we would fill our gap and not wrap up, or allow ourselves to get blocked past our gap allowing running lanes. Diaz has to work with the front seven on maintaining gap integrity, even in an attacking style defense you cannot allow gaps to go unfilled or teams will gash you for 5 yards a pop by getting to the second level. Fill your gap and if you cant beat your man and get up field sink down fight for position and firce a cutback to an awaiting LB. Linebackers, WRAP UP! Yards after contact have to be limited. Offensively we need to look at the film and throw out the crap that didnt work and build off the positives.

This will not be the 2012 team. We will not score 40 plus a game, its not going to happen. However this team can be a mix of the 2008 and 2011 team if what I outlined is addressed and if the coaches can teach special teams guys to do their job, nothing more, nothing less. Special teams needs to worry about their man, their assignment. All this said and done this team will compete in 10 of the next 11 contests and have a chance to go bowling.

As someone mentioned earlier, last year vs the easiest schedule we've had in decades we scored 16 points only 5 times. Opening the season on the road we did that vs one of the nation's top 4 teams. Also, we did not lay down like a floor mat as we did last year.

We're not where we want to be, but we ARE headed in the right direction.

Exactly! The next two weeks will show where we are regarding this season. This will be a different level of athlete to compete against. The dawgs will see guys who are not as fast, not as strong, and not as deep the next two weeks, and it should show.

I want to see the dawgs get to the point where talent gap is not as evident, but that takes time, it will not happen overnight. What I expect from this team and this coaching staff is to be competitive in 10 of the next 11 where there should not be a talent gap to our disadvantage.

Looking back, it could have been worse. The second half had some bright spots and we didn't have a bunch of injuries. Maybe we learned somethings that will help next week. Glad this game is out of the way.

I'm afraid the gap is between Skippy's ears. We will see.

The gap shouldn't be as evident there either. Big game Bobby and Gus are winning P5 games and titles for a reason.

Let's say Skippy is mentally challenged... like "Les Miles's dumb little brother-dumb." He "couldn't win a game if we were playing a bad high school team"- dumb. Could one guy really have that much impact on 100 players and 10 other coaches? If they left him to drool in his office all day and made him stay on the bus, everything would be better for the team and coaching staff?

I agree, but we saw the obvious gap last year in peer games. Saw a couple of small things yesterday along with (last time I'll say it) leaving Dixon in.

A positive for those who don't hold much hope for football...
2013 Louisiana Basketball Coach of the Year Mike White and the defending CUSA Regular Season Co-Champions tip off in just 75 days. Most preseason analysts predict LA Tech to win CUSA again and go to the NCAA tournament.

    Re: The Positives

I'm more optimistic about the season after the Oklahoma game. I actually saw a passing game developing and no fumbles! Considering how good of a team we played, even with their subs, we played fairly solid. Both lines got owned and our secondary didn't look like the one of the best in the history of Tech (still skeptical about that) . . . but I could see Oklahoma playing for the National Championship. They are really, really good.

. I did the drive over-- we had a couple of guys limp off but appears ok. One guy tried to behead Sokol, he was flagged for Targetting and ejected. Dixon met behind line most plays and several times had 3 guys pile on him. He did good job protecting ball. Sokol blindsided couple time and protected ball and bounced right up--so my biggest concern was injury and looks ok

I sure would like to see Hunter Lee have 10-15 carries/game. There are apparently no plans to have him @ RB.

    Re: The Positives

I liked the fact that we didn't lay down and we kept competing. Concerned about offense still. If we can't complete passes to OPEN receivers this week why will it be different next week. I don't think we could have stopped their Offense last night, but we did have open receivers that we underthrew or overthrew alot in the first half. As hard as I have been on Holtz his plays did result in open receivers, so I would put this on the QB and not Holtz. Not sure if it is opening game jitters (since Sokol was at Iowa should not expect it to be the atmosphere or crowd) or poor skills, but Sokol had a hard time getting the ball to the receivers.
