Our immigration problem is far too complex to be understood with sound bites. The problem is, no elected official has stepped up and assumed the role of a statesman, which I define as a leader who sees that public perception of a topic is incorrect, and leads the people to see what the truth really is.
The news media, both left and right wing, have pandered to their audience. The information given is trivial and mostly misleading, if not outright lies.
Will Durrant, discussing the same problems with the press in the early 1600s wrote:

We have a mess. It can be fixed, but I really don't think anybody in power really wants it fixed. They want the masses ignorant. They will keep trivializing it. They will keep politicizing it. They will keep spreading fear. But, they have no intention of fixing it, because fear keeps them in power.
All that is to say, closing borders has never worked in the history of the world. It won't work now. Closing borders is a sound bite. The politicians advocating it know it won't work, just like the liberals advocating a minimum wage know that minimum wage laws hurt the very people they claim to be protecting. Closed borders actually cause far more harm that good, but it will take more than sound bites and pandering to make the case.
I wish we could resolve it on this bulletin board, but the talking points of 99% of the posters will drown out any beneficial discussion on the topic.

I don't agree that FOX is mired in a slanted (to the right, in their case) reporting of the news. Talk radio, like Rush, grew out of the NEED for a media outlet to offset the lies being told by the libtard media. FOX has to emphasize the truth in situations and due to the whole "sound bite" mentality of 2/3 of Americans, they have no choice but to focus their airtime on the points NOT being told by the NBCs and CNNs out there.
So! if you look JUST at their sound bites, and not understand how they fit into the larger debate, on any topic, you would understandably think FOX is nothing but a "right-wing media outlet." Some of us fully know and understand the bigger picture and see exactly what FOX brings to the table. They fill in FACTUAL gaps purposely left out by the libtard media, who is telling lies and half-truths to shore up the socialist agenda of the democrat party and their operatives. And of course, the libtards know this too, so naturally they impune FOX in an attempt to discredit them. And, the same thing can be said about Talk Radio, Rush, Hannity, etc...

IF (big "if") most Americans would devote sufficient time to following a debate on any topic and remained open-minded while gathering the facts, then a media outlet COULD explore all sides to each debate. Offering arguments that are both left and right leaning. Allowing Americans to draw their own conclusions. But, as we all know, that's not what we have.
As an example, look at the Benghazi event. All you libs reading this right now, do you fully understand that obummer, hillary and all the libtard media LIED about that tragic night! And, have continued to lie about it and try to cover it up! Does that not piss you off? How can you not be upset by this? Yet....you impune FOX and continue to believe NBC, CNN, ABC, etc.....? Really??????

I hear this argument almost every week that our country and laws should be more like Saudi Arabia.
