I don't think this game is nearly as close as some think. Biggest reason is we have a QB. If they stack the box, it will be a long day for the Greenies in Denton.

One thing that makes me more confident is the lack of UNT trolls, usually if G5 fans are confident they'll win we will see an up-tick in trolls. UNT is no exception remember 4-5 years ago coming off 4 straight SBC championships they came over and were almost as bad as the ULLers we just dealt with; ended up blowing their doors off as well.
I share the sentiment on trolls, so I'll certainly avoid being one.
Here's the one thing you should really note about us: our best offensive weapons are really our defense. No really, they score the most for us. Additionally, we're all about field positioning and dictating the range with which opposing teams have to work with. As such, our special teams play is phenomenal. Now granted, that certainly didn't phase Dixon with that 99-yard run last week - WOW.
I know a few of you believe that Sokol will have a great day throwing, but our Secondary is actually the most experienced bunch on the whole UNT field and do not allow for any YAC whatsoever - that is, if it's not intercepted. Now however Sokol is still a stud and we could only wish for one of our three QBs to step up like he has.
Quick correction on the Turnover margins: you were correct on last week's solid +5, but at Texas we ended up only -2, not -4.
What's actually poetic about this Thursday match-up is how similar our seasons started: blow-outs by established Big XII powers but still showed great signs of life and indications of good play down the road... followed by absolute wallopings on bitterly hated in-state rivals. Your score does not reflect how dominant you truly were in that game as does ours; it would have been a complete shut-out save for the last four seconds and...
One last point of note: while you are right that Sokol should not be afraid to take the sack if there's nothing ready down the field, know that in two games, we've already ended the season for three QBs and a starting Center (David Ash and Dominic Espinosa-Texas, Neal Burcham and Matt Davis-SMU).

... and a coach!! Bye bye June Jones.
It's been 2 games. With a lot of starters being replaced on both sides of the ball, I don't think we really know what type of team we have yet. I will say the defense looks really really good. Yes they gave up 31 to UT (7 points was a pick 6 for the whorens) but the offense also didn't do them any favors setting UT up with a short field. As far as offense, it will be fine....maybe even a few surprises this week![]()
This game is going to be a tough one I think. Going back to last year, UNT was the most physical defense we played all year. They dominated our OL, which is made of mostly the same guys. Granted, most teams did but not like unt did. We averaged 1.6 yds/carry and they were in our backfield all game. On Bleedtechblue radio the unt guy said they lost alot of starters from last year and DL was hit pretty hard so maybe this is a wash. They are going to try to do exactly what OU did to start the game, which was run it down our throats. We have not been real impressive stopping the run so far. I know the game plan was bend but don't break last week but I am concerned about our run defense. Bates does not appear to be strong vs run and our DT have been less than impressive so far. Maybe this is Diaz's scheme but the front 7 need a breakout game. This is our 3rd road game in 13 days. I hope all of those aren't enough to trip us up.
I think their defense will hit us in the mouth and then hit us again in the mouth -
The question is how does our offense respond?
''Don't be a bad dagh..."
I think just the opposite. Their offense will hit us in the mouth and then hit us again in the mouth. How many punches can we take? Can we get them off the field with some 3 and outs or will they drive the field on us all game long and chew up the clock and give us long fields to drive? I think we need to get a lead and force them to pass the ball some, like we did ULL.
I don't think anyone is comparing ourselves to UT (although, they looked horrible against BYU). We are just going by the two games you have played and the two games we have played. I don't think we are saying you are the same level as OU, either.
Just a matter of what we have to go from. I think your defense is stout and that could cause us problems. Last year, it was easier for you against us, though. We kept trying to run Dixon on every play and it became very easy to defend. Mixing the pass game we now have with that, it will be much tougher with a 2 dimensional attack. SMU didn't have that strength. In fact, I didn't think we had that strength until last Saturday night.
