Yea but it's still better than any Marshall OOC win. Probably better than any Marshall win period. Their schedule sucks this year. That is the problem. C-USA is better than the American this year but ECU scheduled VT, UNC, and South Carolina while Marshall scheduled the MAC.
It shouldn't matter for this year but if I am Marshall, I start circulating last years box score vs ECU. Apart from another ECU loss, that's their only chance.
Do you think wounds are healed with Ibowl folks?...of course crowd and ticket sales help heal wounds...
In my opinion, it is OUR wound. They were a**holes and couldn't wait one day. We made mistakes too, of course, but it was pettiness on their part that was the real problem.
Anyway, with the NWState loss, I don't think our crowd would be big from Shreveport, no matter what. I would MUCH rather land the Heart of Texas Bowl in Dallas.

Reality is Marshall was a preseason thought to represent G5. ECU was not. No doubt Marshall had a tougher time filling their schedule. But I'm sure they could've done better. Miami (OH) went 0-12 last year. You don't play the worst FBS team and still schedule FCS. Their FBS OOC combined for a 12-25 record in 2013. Atleast play better G5 teams if the big boys are scared. This was their year and they failed to get a schedule that matched their expectations.
IMO, the only thing that I care about with the I Bowl is the opponent. ACC or PAC-10 team would be good. MAC or Sunbelt just doesn't do it for me. We need to play the bowl with the best opponent.
I'm pretty sure their Ohio series was scheduled a long time ago. It's a rivalry game that's been played every year for a while. The Miami (Ohio) deal was inked in 2009. It also appears the Akron deal was signed before then. A Louisville deal was also signed in 2009. Louisville was supposed to play at Marshall this year, but Louisville paid Marshall to push it back so Louisville could get another home game. At that point, everybody knew how good Marshall was going to be, and they couldn't find any takers so they ended up with Rhode Island.
The same thing happened with Hawai'i in 2007. Wisconsin realized how good they were supposed to be so they canceled their trip to the islands. All Hawai'i could get to replace them was a second FCS team.
