After hearing all the fuss about please buy your tickets from Tech(got mine in mail today) I was wondering if this problem of selling ticket allotments go for every school. Because if it does wouldn't that put the school that's further away(Illinois) at a disadvantage? If this is the case then they are the ones who are in trouble, I'm sure we will outnumber them by FAR. Also isn't this where the big money donors and sponsors step in and purchase a lot of tickets?

Illinois has a larger alumni base than Tech, so it's easier for them to sell their allotment. It's harder for small schools to sellout their allotment and the logic is that it will hurt a schools (especially G5 schools) reputation with bowl committees if they cannot selling their allotment.

The problem (well, one of the problems) with this logic is that we're (G5) all in the same boat.

If CUSA has a tie to a bowl, it isn't an issue. Or if it is, it's more about geography. We will always sell more tickets in Dallas than any CUSA team from the East, and on par with the rest of the West except maybe UNT. For conference bowls our competition is the rest of the conference (and then only in the situation where we have the same record). If Tech is 6-6 and FAU is 6-6, we're going to be the top choice for the Heart of Dallas or Armed Forces and they're going to be the top choice for the Boca Raton Bowl. The BR Bowl isn't going to care how many tickets we sold in Dallas X years ago.

If we're looking at an "at-large" replacement situation for an open spot, we will always lose to any P5 teamin consideration (we saw this last year). Just look at who got left out this year. All G5 schools. Maybe we squeak in over a truly weak G5 team from far away for a really close bowl like the Indy or NO. But 99/100 times this decision has already been made before any bowl rep goes over the numbers or considers our 2014 Heart of Dallas Bowl over-valued ticket allotment sales. And if it's between us and another G5 school, we're back to geography for the most part. It's just going to come down to where the bowl with an opening is located. This is true regardless of how many tickets we sell in a given year.

Obviously the 500 student seats are discounted by $27,500 or so.

Discounted band seats and some others too.

I'm guessing we/C-USA is on the hook for around $500K.
I would imagine they found a donor(s) to pay the difference on the student tickets.

    Re: HOD Bowl

When conferences align with bowls they agree to purchase a certain number of tickets. One reason we are in Dallas and Marshall is in Florida is proximity of fans and better chances of C-USA/Tech to recover the pre-set agreed upon amount of ticket sales. Without looking, I'm guessing Marshall's cost of allotment is much less than Tech's for HOD.

As mentioned in an earlier post, we WILL sell our allotment even if it comes out of our (C-USA's) proceeds from the bowl payout. That's why it is so important for the money to flow through Tech to purchase tickets. I wish there were a discounted rate other than student tickets to give. $75 per ticket is strong when there are $25 tickets available.

The students and band are sitting in the less expensive seats.

We are getting different reports from the ticket office on that. Some report that the number is 5000.

Or 5,000 depending on who you speak with... unfortunately sounds like we won't sellout...

I just hope we make a good showing from the area faithful. I bought 14 tickets, but also had several Dallas alumni say it would be a last minute decision to go or they already had obligations for that Friday. I personally am looking forward to the game!

I am sure there are some Tech administration persons who read or at least glance at this board. What would be wrong with one of them stepping forth and providing an answer to questions such as how many tickets were allotted. It would be no sin, surely its no big secret, so why not step forward and settle the matter.

You all are saying that we cannot sell 7500 tickets to a bowl game in Dallas? If that is true, I don't expect many future bowl invites from anyone other than Indy, Hawaii or Bahamas. We should at least have 20K for this game.

I doubt we could get 20k in Ruston the day after Christmas. I think reasonable goal is 10- 12k if this game was on Saturday then maybe 20k. I agree however that less than 5k which is what I suspect we have sold is pathetic.

    Re: HOD Bowl

There are 10K alumni in the Shreveport/Bssier City area. I woud guess that we have 5K+ in the DFW metroplex. Probably anther 5K in or around Houston. Bowl games will always be around the holidays. That should not be an excuse unless you want to watch your Dawgs on television playing in Hawaii or the Bahamas.

The attendance at this game is very important in determining where & when our fans will attend bowl games. Many people on this board bitch about playing in the Independence Bowl...but we all know that we draw our largest crowds in Shreveport. We might have to become like ULL and only play in one bowl every year. Pretty sad!

Agree completely! Tech fans are too lazy to drive a day trip over for a BOWL GAME after Christmas is over!??? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I know many people in Dallas, N.O., Houston, and elsewhere who make the drive to Ruston for EVERY HOME GAME, don't get to tailgate much if any, and aren't back home in an hour after the game.

If there aren't 20K Tech fans at this game (regardless of where they bought their game ticket), then we clearly do not have an FBS fan base.
