The last ULL game in Ruston had 22,000+ (2004). That would have been the second highest attend home game this year (behind Northwestern St [FCS]), and the highest attend home game in 2013.
I don't know what the trajectory of the storm was but Southern Miss played at home vs ULL on the same date at about the same time and had a attendance of nearly 33,000.
You guys keep saying this, but if they keep losing $$$$$ in athletics and as an institution, enrollment, schollarly pursuits and the race to keep up with Tech, how can they continue??? Surely someone will say 'enough is enough'???? If we play them or help them stay afloat, then you could be right, but if we ignore them????
Exactly....... In the world of social media, we have a lot of opportunities as fans to market our team to all over the world. I post Tech stuff every single game day. I am one person, but have 800 people that read my FB posts or see it in their feed. About 40 of them share some of my Tech posts. 800 of their friends then have it in their feed. It has meant a LOT even on my trips around Texas every week. When I walk in, they know who Tech is and what that emblem is on my belt.
HOWEVER, that only works when I post about SOME opponents. They do NOT know who the UL twins are or NW State or any other state team - save for lsu, Tulane, and even sometimes Grambling. Good or bad, people have heard of them.
As for the Northern twin in Monroe, they will die if we and others don't keep feeding them. They can't sustain forever.
Guys,
We have this idiot on the baord named 'Vermillion White' who keeps trying to 'red dot' me because he doesn't agree with what I say. Unfortunately for him, you have to have green before you can red dot!!!! He apparently is a trool since I cannot find one post by him. Just a lurker from USL who can't seem to stay on his own board.

They aren't desirable to this older generation fan either. I won't drive from Houston to Ruston to watch SU's band either. I will probably go all the way up to Manhattan, Kansas as I have done twice before (that doesn't count the trip to Lawrence). And if gas is still cheap next fall I hope to make it at least one game in Ruston, but it will probably a C-USA game.
We are at a major disadvantage. We need an airport and a full blown Hotel. Both of which won't guarantee P5 schools. I'm all for P5 schools playing in the Joe but at what cost? How about scheduling wins to get us Bowl eligible every year. That will put fans into the stands no matter what. This board is so often worried about what could set us back as opposed to what will push us forward. NSU beat us because we took them for granted. Did it cost us?? Yes, but a big bowl win and a division championship more than erased that in the minds of the public
And there are plenty of other examples, including Auburn, where opponents stay in Montgomery, an hour away. The truth is, our opponents don't use it as an excuse. Pat Hill, the ex Fresno State coach said staying in Shreveport at one of the casinos was probably the best road trip his team would take.
I thought about that, but until last week, nobody could fly to Love Field anyway unless they were flying from another Texas city (e.g., Houston) or a state that literally borders the state of Texas (e.g., Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas, etc). But after 40 years of implementation and protectionism, the "Wright Amendment" finally expired on Jan 1, 2015. So, what you say is indeed true going forward.
