I like our chances. Last year, I thought our guys stepped up in El Paso and we were sorta shafted in terms of having the least amount of rest between the semis and the final. Our semi started and ended late, and it seemed like the final was at the crack of dawn. Not taking anything away from Tulsa because they were hot and matched-up of with us well. In fact, they came within a hair of beating us in Ruston just before they got hot. I thought Tech made a statement in the way we took the game to Southern Miss (a team that was built for the NCAA--illegally built too).

Like most of y'all, UTEP is the team I'd prefer to avoid if possible. They simply haven't played well against us this year, and it will be a tall order to beat them 3 times. ODU is formidable but they embarrassed us earlier, and I don't think they can do it again. Obviously, UAB is a tough match-up too and they have the crowd. Charlotte can be dangerous and Western Kentucky has some good players. I also think Middle is a darkhorse that could win the tournament.

All in all, I think we have the best team and this is Tech's tournament to lose. Our guys have proven they are the best in the conference. We have veteran leadership. Our rotation has been established and is reliable. We have 3 legit scorers that can go off on any night (giving us the largest margin of error). I like our chances.

I think 12 teams should be included in the conference tournament, but the #3 and #4 seeds should get byes into the quarterfinals, and the #1 and #2 seeds should get byes into the semifinals.

    Tuesday--1st round
    5 vs 12, 8 vs 9, 6 vs 11, 7 vs 10

    Wednesday--2nd round
5-12 winner vs 8-9 winner, 6-11 winner vs 7-10 winner

    Thursday--Quarterfinals
    4 vs 5-12-8-9 winner, 3 vs 6-11-7-10 winner

    Friday--Semifinals
    1 vs 4-5-12-8-9 winner, 2 vs 3-6-11-7-10 winner

    Saturday--Championship game

i like it, but it would be even better if it were 10 teams. #1 gets a bye to the semis; 2,3,4 get byes to quarters.

10 teams isn't enough out of 14 to qualify. That isn't a better plan.

I favor letting all teams play in the conference tournament.

Did you know that 3 #11 seeds have made it to the Final Four, including twice in the last 8 years. They had to beat 4 teams to get to the Final Four.

VCU actually beat five teams to make it to the final four.

So, boxerdog, let me see if I got this straight, you believe the teams with a chance to win are the 5 teams with 12 wins or more; Tech, ODU, UTEP, WKU, UAB...you also think two teams with 7 or fewer wins, MTU and Charlotte, can win it all. That's 7 of 10 teams. Good analysis. Heck, I'll go one step further and predict that there's a 100% chance that any team that makes the tourney has a chance to win ti all......

your opinion. in my opinion, the bottom 4 teams did not earn the right to have a chance for a tourney championship.

if you really wanted to be more inclusive, you could add a play-in round for the bottom 4, the key being to reward the teams that did well in the regular season with a better chance of winning it all.

Haven't you learned anything from Phil Steele?? Point out the plausibility of every possible scenario and then claim credit for the prediction when one occurs. LOL!

LaTech is the team to beat in Birmingham.
UTEP poses the biggest threat to LaTech.
    Middle Tennessee is my darkhorse.

    That clear enough for you?

I like this method or prediction. I'll follow suit.

    UAB poses the biggest threat.

Take a look at this year's standings...only 2 teams are clearly worse record-wise than the other 12. I would expect that to be the case most years. Much harder to get 4 teams clearly worse record-wise than the other 10. I don't like to see tiebreakers decide who goes to the tournament or who stays home.

It could be done this way to get all 14 teams in...top 6 get 1 bye, top 4 get 2 byes, #1 seed gets 3 byes
    First round Tuesday--seeds 7-14 play in four games (7-10, 8-9, 11-14, 12-13).
Second round Wednesday--5 seed plays the 12-13 winner, 6 seed plays the 11-14 winner and the 7-10 and 8-9 winners play.
Quarterfinals Thursday--2 seed plays the 7-10/8-9 winner, 3 seed plays the 6/11-14 winner, 4 seed plays the 5/12-13 winner
Semifinals Friday--1 seed plays the 4/5-12-13 winner and the 2/7-10-8-9 winner plays the 3/6-11-14 winner
    Championship Saturday
