There was never a doubt. We were the only team in C-USA with a shot at getting better. Maybe ODU, but doubtful for them either.

Furthermore, the major conference teams outside of the Top 10 or so have the luxury of being "upset" in their conference tournament to allow an extra conference member into the NCAA tournament. For every NCAA tournament game that a team plays they earn a basketball unit- worth ~$1.6M over 6 years.

This is the 3rd consecutive year that CUSA's representative in the NCAA Tournament won't be returning to CUSA the following season (assuming UAB can't field a football program in 2015). If we're stupid enough to let this happen, at least we're smart enough to keep the basketball units when they leave.

Conferences (not the school) get the units. Conferences get the payments. If UAB cannot fulfill the requirements of conference affiliation then they do not get their share of the conference's units. UABlazin doesn't know what he/she is talking about.

16 seeds win two games every year now in the First Four. But a 16 seed has never beaten a 1 seed.
