I still think this is a bluff to stay in CUSA longer. It is a political move to calm the students and supporters, but I don't think they have an intention of doing it. They will do another financial study and come up with the same conclusion - even if falsely biased.

UAB for basketball only, and ARMY for football only. Both moves make CUSA a stronger, more recognizable, 14-team conference in BOTH sports.

I guarantee you that ULL fans don't want to see this.

I just can't see UAB reinstating football. To do it, the UAB pres would have to admit he made a mistake! He could never bring himself to admit he was wrong.

SMU was punished for beating the University of Texas and Texas A&M. Really they were punished for signing players that those two teams wanted. SMU just outbid them. They did nothing that everyone else in the old SWC (well maybe not Rice) wasn't doing.

And for everyone else as well, so I don't see any advantage. That said, I would prefer they continue football and remain a conference member.

Are horrendous with extremely poor attitudes. Somehow, they claim Tech fans are arrogant.

    Re: CUSA Decision on UAB

It's not a delaying tactic. One way or the other, it's the opposite one. They know if they don't make a decision to bring back football by June, they're out of Conference USA. So the Official Decision is thrust upon them.

And that's all it's saying. People seem to be reading this as a likely announcement of reinstatement. I don't think that's the case at all. I mean, it could be (I have no idea), but it could just as easily be putting the nail in the coffin of the #FreeUAB movement. If Watts goes on TV and says that they've looked at it For Real This Time and it's not going to happen, and then a week later they're kicked out of Conference USA, it's lights out. The announcement would then just reinforce the point.

If they do reinstate it, then keeping them in a conference is a no-brainer, assuming (and I'm relatively certain) Army isn't interested in being a FBO member. It's a few more years of 13 teams, but there really aren't any other candidates worth considering that either won't be (a) also delayed by a couple years like JMU or (b) just as bad as a limping UAB (GaSt).
University of Houston '01. Any references to "we" or "us" likely refer to UH. Cheers!

Would be a shame for CUSA to lose a basketball program like UAB. No, seriously. I'd rather their MBB stays. But, rules are rules....

There is no school, with all sports, worthy to jump in. Not right now, not in the geographic footprint of CUSA, anyway. The BEST possible scenario, as discussed, would be Army for FBO, and UAB staying. Not likely though.

I'm not convinced this is so great for Tech anyway. I know Army would have more name recognition than any other CUSA team, but along with the fact that everyone has heard of them is the fact that everyone knows they aren't good at football anymore. And if we added a team in New York, it'd make sense that they play in the East - which means Tech plays them, what? Every 4 years or something? And what would we think if they moved MTSU and WKU together to the West (to keep their rivalry - because, you know, cross-divisional teams in a 14 team conference only play every few years) - and they move Southern Miss to the East? That would really suck. And on top of that we'd be giving a decent basketball program the advantage of narrowing all their focus on one sport while still competing with the rest of us who have to stretch our limited resources.

None of that appeals to me. I like Army, and they certainly have more history than F_U or most of the rest of the current conference. But I'm not sure one game every 4 years is worth the hybrid conference.

If Army did join, they could be placed in the west. That's what the AAC did with Navy, the idea being that since they are a national brand it matters less where you put them. And they, like Navy, have a definite following in Texas.

Yeah, they could be, but who knows if they would be.

I don't think there is much risk that it would happen anyway, so I'm not really worried about it.
