Re: If you want a thread to die

39 days now til our first football game of the 2015 season in Ruston. Just six weeks til kickoff. YA GOTTA LOVE IT!!
    • #39 Larry Csonka is considered the best NFL athlete to ever wear the uniform number 39. He was the first running back to be assessed an unnecessary roughness penalty while carrying the ball. Out of Syracuse, Csonka's 1968 rookie season with the Miami Dolphins he suffered two concussions, a broken nose and a cracked eardrum. It was a rough start to a career that would eventually become legendary, en route to the the first (and currently only) perfect NFL season (17-0).
      • Super Bowl VIII MVP
      • 5 time Pro Bowler (1970 to 1974)
      • 2 time Super Bowl Champion (VII and VIII)
      • Rushed for over 1,000 yards each year between 1971 and 1973.
      • 8,081 career regular season rushing yards
      • 64 career regular season rushing touchdowns
      • Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 198
    • #39 Roy Campanella was the first catcher to break baseball's color barrier, was enshrined in the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1969. The three-time MVP and eight-time All-Star is considered the best professional baseball player to ever wear the number 39. In a mere ten seasons for the Dodgers, Roy Campanella amassed 242 home-runs with a .276 batting average. Not too bad for an all-star caliber catcher.
    • #39 President James Earl "Jimmy" Carter from Georgia, who served one term. While in office his somewhat redneck brother promoted a beer with his name on it, to the endless delight of comedians. Written on each can were these words of endorsement, which were followed by the president's brother's signature: Brewed expressly for and with the personal approval of one of AMERICA's all-time Great Beer Drinkers—xxxxx Carter. I had this beer brewed up just for me. I think it's the best I ever tasted. And I've tasted a lot. I think you'll like it, too." What was the name of the beer?
    • #39 Bulldog sophomore receiver Marcus Gaines. His one handed touchdown catch against UTEP last year was a marvel, enjoy:

In a way, I'm not that happy about President Carter being mentioned above!! Anyone who was around at that time could tell you he was the worst president in the history of the US. However, Obama has now taken over as being the WORST PRESIDENT in the history of the US!!!! So, Carter should be happy.

Agreed! The guy couldn't win. Remember when a wild swamp rabbit swam out towards a rowboat he was fishing from? Pres Carter splashed at it with a paddle. ASPCA got all over him, comedians joked for months about the "killer rabbit." Or remember the Playboy interview when Carter admitted to having "lusted after women in his heart." Or: Johnny Carson as Carnac the Magnificent held up the envelope to his head, divined the answer -- "Yes and no, pro and con, for and against" -- opened the envelope and said, "Describe Jimmy Carter's position on three major issues."

ONLY THREE WEEKS+ UNTIL FANFEST on August 22 when we get to meet out Bulldogs: http://www.latechsports.com/sports/m...072115aaa.html

I look forward to that every year. It is always interesting to be able to talk with Coach Holtz...man to man.

This better be. They're going to have a really bad time trying to get anything out of me.

Nope. Checked with Jay on Twitter. I think those of us who don't bow to the cartel can still "get in" just not "prioritized," whatever that means.

I'd have a little more respect for the "Blue Crew" if they didn't act like LSU students and actually showed up to non-televised games.

Yeah, I hadn't checked social media before you posted that. I envisioned Blue Crew members shaking down anyone trying to get into O before games, lol.

How many people could this possibly be anyway? 20-30? They can have the front row of O, I prefer to stay near the top anyway. Better sight lines and easier in/out from bathrooms and concessions.

It sounds like they're trying to force people into it. I don't really have a problem paying for student tickets in principle, but as long as we're not consistently selling out games all you're doing is hurting your casual market.

There were maybe 10 guys that would come to basketball games, but only the Dawgs, only on weekends, and usually only if it were televised.

I like the middle of O but I guess I'll get used to the top. I don't like being forced to do things especially when I've been a faithful fan.

DOAK WALKER is many fans pick for the best NFL athlete to ever wear the uniform number 37, he is also our pick for the best professional athlete to ever wear the
uniform number 37. Taken int he 1949 NFL draft out of SMU, Doak was primarily a halfback during his six year NFL career for the Detroit Lions, however, he also kicked, punted, threw, and played defense. With that type of versatility it would have been amazing to watch Doak perform at the NFL combine of today.

Some of the highlights from Doak's NFL career:
    • 5 time Pro Bowler (1950, 1951, 1953, 1954 and 1955)
    • 5 time All Pro (same years as above)
    • Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 1986
    • Scored winning TD in 1952 NFL title game
    • Led NFL in scoring in 1950 and 1955
    • Led NFL in Point After Touchdowns in 1951 and 1954 (yes, he was also a kicker)
    • 1950 NFL Rookie of the Year
There is a collegiate football award named after Doak Walker, given to the top collegiate running back in the nation
. THIS YEAR THIS AWARD SHOULD GO TO OUR VERY OWN BULLDOG MR. KENNETH DIXON!!!
