I actually think more parking is needed for students as they attend classes. Hopefully we grow attendance so much at football games we have to figure that out.
Good old Memorial Gym
Some of us attended when the admin was not so car oriented. They thought it was their job to provide an education, not parking. Of course they still ran school buses (you know Yellow Hounds) from as far away as Dubach and Quitman and maybe further. Of course there was the shuttle (another Yellow Hound) over to the South Campus or whatever the Ag - Forestry guys called it.
The master plan specifically addresses the lack of trees. I'd rather have a couple parking garages off main campus than lots scattered everywhere.
We need shuttles!!! Have students park at JAS during the week and shuttles drop off at different areas on campus. During game days, shuttle takes fans from on campus parking to the stadium.
The shuttles can also be used for basketball games,. pick students up at dorms and take to the TAC/Vice versa.
Also, in the evenings (on non- gamedays), the shuttles can be used to take students to various shopping/dining locations throughout town.
That is not a reason to not do it. We want Tech to grow academically and athletically. With that, Ruston grows. We as a university and a city will need a people-moving system in place (along with all the other growing pains). The best thing is to of started 10 years ago, but since that didn't happen, it needs to start now while everything is still "small" and easily manageable and studied.
I am playing devils advocate here, but there is a reason public transit systems are not private for profit enterprises.
If there was a way for the university to start it and run it without it being a drain of resources I would all for it, Otherwise, enjoy the walk.
Here is what some colleges/towns the size of Ruston offer
