However, many hope that they will have a great Senior season and draw offers from programs which represent either their dream school, or something close to it.
Oklahoma State found a kid that hadn't gotten much attention during his Junior year, but had good mechanics that our QB coach like. His name is Nick Starkel. After pledging with us, he began to blow up in the 7 on 7 camps and earned an invitation to the Elite 11 finals in Oregon. Then he proceeded to have a great Senior year. When Texas A&M lost the first of their two five-star QBs, the Aggies reached out to Starkel, with an opportunity for earlier playing time. Also, UCLA and USC began to show interest and his dream is to play in LA.
As such, Starkel decommitted two weeks ago, leaving us without a scholarship QB in this class.
Because we're playing in the Sugar Bowl this year, I'm guessing our coaches began studying film on Louisiana kids. Our OC/QB coach is a pretty gifted scout of good QB talent. We like to recruit QBs that are tall, relatively mobile with a strong arm. Accuracy isn't as much of an issue, because we can coach up their mechanics and judgment while they red-shirt.
Wudtee apparently caught our coaches eye. Since we can't have direct contact with recruits for another month, the bowl game offers a good opportunity to judge Wudtee's interest. I'm sure we're going to get him some tickets to the Sugar Bowl. I'm also pretty sure you guys had him inside the Super Dome for your bowl game on the 19th (congrats on the win, BTW). I imagine we're hoping he'll compare the New Orleans bowl with half of the seats empty, to the Sugar Bowl, which will be packed to the gills and loud.
Toss in that he is scheduled to come for a official visit in Stillwater on Jan. 15, and there's a good chance he'll commit shortly after his visit. We're a P5 program that has had a winning season each of the last 10 seasons, been to the Fiesta, Cotton (twice) and Sugar Bowls, and had a QB drafted in the first round of the NFL draft in 2012. Add in that our facilities are rated in the Top Ten of all programs, and I'm fairly confident that we can land him
Sorry. Getting poached sucks.
We know, we got poached two weeks ago.
