It's become pretty common for schools to want to lock down a QB during the Summer prior to signing date. However, many kids will lock down, during the Summer, with the best available program, knowing that if they get hurt during their Senior year of high school, they have a good program in the bank. However, many hope that they will have a great Senior season and draw offers from programs which represent either their dream school, or something close to it.

Oklahoma State found a kid that hadn't gotten much attention during his Junior year, but had good mechanics that our QB coach like. His name is Nick Starkel. After pledging with us, he began to blow up in the 7 on 7 camps and earned an invitation to the Elite 11 finals in Oregon. Then he proceeded to have a great Senior year. When Texas A&M lost the first of their two five-star QBs, the Aggies reached out to Starkel, with an opportunity for earlier playing time. Also, UCLA and USC began to show interest and his dream is to play in LA.

As such, Starkel decommitted two weeks ago, leaving us without a scholarship QB in this class.

Because we're playing in the Sugar Bowl this year, I'm guessing our coaches began studying film on Louisiana kids. Our OC/QB coach is a pretty gifted scout of good QB talent. We like to recruit QBs that are tall, relatively mobile with a strong arm. Accuracy isn't as much of an issue, because we can coach up their mechanics and judgment while they red-shirt.

Wudtee apparently caught our coaches eye. Since we can't have direct contact with recruits for another month, the bowl game offers a good opportunity to judge Wudtee's interest. I'm sure we're going to get him some tickets to the Sugar Bowl. I'm also pretty sure you guys had him inside the Super Dome for your bowl game on the 19th (congrats on the win, BTW). I imagine we're hoping he'll compare the New Orleans bowl with half of the seats empty, to the Sugar Bowl, which will be packed to the gills and loud.

Toss in that he is scheduled to come for a official visit in Stillwater on Jan. 15, and there's a good chance he'll commit shortly after his visit. We're a P5 program that has had a winning season each of the last 10 seasons, been to the Fiesta, Cotton (twice) and Sugar Bowls, and had a QB drafted in the first round of the NFL draft in 2012. Add in that our facilities are rated in the Top Ten of all programs, and I'm fairly confident that we can land him

    Sorry. Getting poached sucks.

We know, we got poached two weeks ago.

All those winning seasons as a mighty P5 and only one conference championship. How could Wudtee ever choose another school?? All hail OK State.

Committing draws attention. It's part of the process.

They should just change the verbiage from "commit" to "unless I get a better offer, I will likely sign with..."

Ought to just do away with signing day, and allow schools/players to sign when they commit. That would be a true commitment.

Our QB coach has coached two QBs that were first round picks and a QB that transferred in for his senior year and threw for over 4000 yards. A player can get to the NFl by playing for La Tech just as well as playing for Ok State. Tech has 3 players in the NFL Hall of Fame. How many does Ok State have? La Tech is only an hour from his home and Ok State is a good day's drive. We really don't give a shit how many recruits you lost. You got your butt kicked again this year by Oklahoma, so you're still only the second best team in your state, same as Tech is in La.

    Re: 2016 Football Commitments

Unfortunately not surprised ( been posting for months) -- I saw him play a couple of times this yr and he is gifted athlete. His original plan was to enroll for spring --when that did not happen I saw the probability of this happening. My buddy and I drove back today and we both felt his commitment was premature. In fairness to him, would you left a 17 year old tell you what to do with your future?? Tough on fan base when commits bail but a young man should be allowed to look at options.. I hope he sticks but after first time watching him I had my doubts.... remember, a lot of these programs will have spending money soon and that is a big deal...

That's fair. I'm mostly just uncomfortable with the semantics.

I don't think it's legal to give recruits tickets to bowl games.

Exactly. But that would level the playing field, and we apparently can't have that.

. Probably not. The Mavericks and Pelicans played BB in Shreveport last year and Tech was not allowed to get tickets for men/women's team. Some NCAA reg

You're right, they can only give out tickets to their home stadium.

    Re: 2016 Football Commitments

Maybe these lazy coaches who can't do their homework says "lets see who Tech has committed. They are doing something right." We definitely need an early signing period to level some of the playing field. Hopefully Wudtee remains true to his commitment. It would be nice for him to remain true. We surley do not need OSU showing him what little faith we have in his integrity.
