He knew it was very likely that he would move on after one year. Why would he sign a deal that could only hurt his future negotiations or actually cost him $50K before taking the new job?
It is assumed that we could force Diaz to sign a contract that he had NOTHING to gain from. He was not looking for long term employment in Ruston. We were accepting his terms, not the other way around.

what has impressed me about this thread is the respect BBB has for S Miss. Been this way for years-- can not think of any team that gets consistent positive posts ..
I really don't like USM, but I do have respect for them. My dislike goes back many years to the Brett Favre era. They are #3 in their state and they do very well despite having 2 SEC schools in the state.
Simple definition of R E S P E C T -
Of course, there are only 3 major football schools in our state also.The 3 major football schools in Louisiana are Tech, Tulane, and LSU - and then there's nlulm and us-l masquerading as "major" schools. By the definition above, I don't respect nlulm or us-l.

I think southern miss has been a good blueprint for tech the last 20 years getting better in D1. everyone wants to be boise state and I get that, but until the ellis johnson disaster, this team won around 7 to 9 games most years and was always in a bowl. they do it in a relatively small town (although bigger than ruston) and they aren't the biggest fish in the state, unlike boise. I think it is a bit like looking in the mirror
Not enough hate for USM. Too much respect.
If UAB had a football team we could actually hate them, but then our AD says, "that's not who we are".
