If you research the Huey Long reign of tyrannical power-one of his missions was to make lsu his showcase school. Isu grew tremendously and was jumpstarted to its status now. He also provided free textbooks to schoolchildren as one the many "you will always get their vote" programs mentality that grew along with FDR's New Deal programs in 1930's. Long was pondering a national run in politics before being assassinated.

Unfortunately, an impoverished populace is often susceptible to a snake oil salesman like Huey Long when their country's economy is suffering. The economic depression of the 1930's gave Long a receptive audience. History is littered with tyrants who came to power in bad economies. It's exactly how Adolf Hitler and many other dictators came to power.

Very true. Why didnt Jindal start a rainy day fund when Oil was at $130 barrel? Oil was at record highs during most of his tenure, 8 years.

Texas rainy day fund is awash with 12 billion from record oil prices.

Louisiana budget deficit is 1.3 billion while Texas rainy day fund is 12 billion from years of record oil prices.

Politics cant play the blame game on this one. What happen to all the record revenues from record oil prices during Jindal's tenure?
