If that were to happen, what little number of people actually like the establishment would goto zero and there will be real protesting in the streets of Cleveland. You could see riots like the dems had in 1968 except much more violent if any establishment representatives show up. This will not happen because Trump will be the nominee on the first ballot. Trump has demonstrated a high floor and a low ceiling. RCP has Trump's favorability rating spread as -28.5. And that's with Republicans. I also think there's an disproportionate amount of Dems in open primaries voting for Trump as a spoiler vote. They're Hillary supporters who will not vote for him in the general. His head to head matchup numbers against Hillary are also dismal, RCP avg. has Clinton winning by 6.3 points and trending higher.
A Ryan nomination at an open convention is probably the only way the GOP can save face after this election. He's considered a party unifier already, he's been thoroughly vetted, and Hillary has no oppo research on him. Trump would throw a fit, but sore loser laws would prevent him from making a serious third party bid. The GOP needs to get back on track with it's message of an equal chance for anyone to prosper, and Trump and his supporters are driving the message in the exact opposite direction.
Monday night's republican debate cancelled "due to Trump" according to the media.
Paul Ryan says he would not accept nomination.
He has a history of reluctance. He may be serious about not accepting it, and he may also be trying to appear humble and unambitious about nomination (which was the norm during the early days of the presidency).
The debate cancellation is a dumb move. The media is giving Trump the upper hand, and all the free publicity he wants. Forbes estimates his free media coverage is worth over $2 billion so far.
He's also talking about riots in Cleveland if he isn't given the nomination, which sounds to me like an underhanded threat.
News Flash to Trump: You don't deserve the nomination if you don't participate in the process, and think you can strong arm the convention with threats of violence.
I can't stand to hear him even open his mouth. That would really make me throw up if I have to vote for Trump. I don't think that is going to happen though.

Because everything he says is annoying. How many times as he told us what he did in Ohio? That is how he starts everything he says-"in Ohio, I...."
Well, that is because he should talk about what he did in Ohio. Apparently the economy turned around under his watch, and more significantly, Ohioans came out en masse to support him. He must be doing a good job there.
I think you will be shocked by how many Cruz voters will not vote for Trump and are not voting for Cruz because they like Cruz as much as they are voting for him because he's the only conservative left. I think a great many Cruz voters find Trump not even remotely conservative. I say this because I think most Cruz voters like him because he is Conservative NOT because he is anti establishment. I think the anti establishment vote went to Trump a long time ago and those voters never really found their way to Cruz.
Trump-Kasich would easily win. Automatically bringing Ohio is pretty significant.
I'm not sure Kasich would even agree to that. The voters who aren't voting for Trump (averages about 60-65%) are mostly opposed to Trump as the candidate. Just because Kasich is on the ticket doesn't mean Ohioans (sp.?) will vote for Trump. His head to head matches with Hillary are terrible.
