    Re: 2016 Presidential Campaign

It would be tough for any Republican to beat a Democrat today. I saw one of the Sunday morning talk shows yesterday where Clinton has enough delegates in the blue states that she only has to win Nevada or Colorado to win the election.... and that's assuming the Republican wins Florida, Ohio, and Virginia. Something crazy would have to happen for the Republican to win (Hillary indicted or a couple of blue states turn red). Trump claims he can get Pennsylvania and Michigan, but no one else believes he can.

Tyler, I have a question for you. Cruz's dad said in an interview last week that their family were fasting and praying before Ted decided to enter the race and asking God if he should run. He said Heidi Cruz got a message after a couple of hours... "Seek my face, not my hand." Ted interpreted that as a green light to run for president. How would you interpret that message?

I very much would interpret it the same. It doesn't mean that God will have him win the Presidency necessarily but hopefully Cruz will have influence in shaping the platform by bringing in strong convictions, Christian principles and morals. Cruz might still get a shot a foreign policy as Secretary of State. These use to have great power and influence like Kissinger and Baker did in our lifetime. Who knows?

    * The other side of me could go the other way as well with the "Seek my face, not my hand" message from God meaning Cruz should have sat back and waited 4 years, seeking God's face first instead of using his hands (implies work and action). Four years from now might have been God's plan and Cruz jumped too early. We will not know until the VP and cabinet positions are filled this go around. And then it might be 4 years from now when we see what Cruz really should have done.

    Trump 41%, Clinton 39%

    Monday, May 02, 2016
Last week, Rasmussen Reports gave voters the option of staying home on Election Day if Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are the big party nominees, and six percent (6%) said that’s what they intend to do for now. Clinton and Trump were tied with 38% support each; 16% said they would vote for some other candidate, and two percent (2%) were undecided.
But Trump edges slightly ahead if the stay-at-home option is removed. Trump also now does twice as well among Democrats as Clinton does among Republicans.
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of Likely U.S. Voters finds Trump with 41% support to Clinton’s 39%. Fifteen percent (15%) prefer some other candidate, and five percent (5%) are undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.)
This is the first time Trump has led the matchup since last October. Clinton held a 41% to 36% advantage in early March.
Trump now has the support of 73% of Republicans, while 77% of Democrats back Clinton. But Trump picks up 15% of Democrats, while just eight percent (8%) of GOP voters prefer Clinton, given this matchup. Republicans are twice as likely to prefer another candidate.
Among voters not affiliated with either major party, Trump leads 37% to 31%, but 23% like another candidate. Nine percent (9%) are undecided.

If I got that message, I would not have run. I take it as "seek my face (get to know me intimately), not my hand (don't seek my power)."

Trump now has the support of 73% of Republicans (ouch, but improved), while 77% of Democrats back Clinton (ouch, she's a terrible candidate too). But Trump picks up 15% of Democrats (great, Democrats like our moderate candidate), while just eight percent of GOP voters prefer Clinton (wow, I'm not THAT butt hurt!).

This is going to be a battle of who can drive up the other's negatives the most, not issues. Crooked Hillary vs Woman-hating Trump.

You can see with my above (in bold) that I hedged my bet or rethought your question. I was more hoping with my first answer but realistic you are probably right with yours and my second bolded answer.

Yeah, I agree with your second answer. I think the Cruz family went in with "of course he wants us to run, let's just confirm it." Then they get a word and didn't think about what it meant. He should have "leaned not on his own understanding and let God direct his path." I guess in the end it didn't matter what Cruz did, God just tried to tell him in advance and he missed it.

But I do think God can still use him, and probably will, per my first answer in red above. That's what Cruz needs to set his mind and eyes on now, "Where is God leading me at this point?".

No doubt. People like me will still need a strong, Godly, Texan, Constitutional conservative, Senator to stop the Trump agenda.

That's the big problem with the "God told me to" line of thinking...it's very squishy. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad that God calls politicians to engage. I just would be leery of anyone who said God told them to run (like Rick Perry did in 2012). Far too often it's pandering, but even when it's completely genuine, it can be dead wrong.

Here's hoping Ted can pull a rabbit out of his hat in Indiana...otherwise, we're looking at 8 years of HRC. If we're lucky she'll moderate and run things the way Bill did. If we're not, we'll be western Europe 2.0, but with many more people and thus, exacerbated problems.

"You don't have to be the best team in the nation. Just the best team in the stadium that day." - Coach Lou Holtz

Well, Trump doesn't have to be the best man for the job (Prez), just better than the other guy, Shrill Hill, on election day.

Exactly. BTW, I voted for Cruz too. However, it still looks as if Cruz might get a SC seat if Trump is Da man come November and Obama actually leaves the WH.

    Re: 2016 Presidential Campaign

The one thing I've learned this election is conservatism is dead. It's too extreme, even for Republicans. And on that note, no way Cruz is allowed to sit on the SC.

I sense that it's mostly social conservatism that's the problem. A movement towards libertarianism and abandoning the social issues of Republicanism. A lot of folks on the right say it's time to get rid of God and win on economic issues. Makes sense since we are getting destroyed on social issues anyway.

Oh, and issues and the constitution aren't very important either. It's a personality contest.
