Higgons, has some big shoes to fill replacing Cody and Jeff!
The position will be his to lose
It would make me have a bit more confidence if indeed he had attended some QB Camp over the summer!

I'll bet most of you guys who are knocking Higgins before he plays a down as a senior are the same ones who knocked Colby Cameron before his senior year. There were lots of naysayers back then and all he did was set the NCAA record for number of passes without an interception. Why in the world would Holtz start Higgins if he thought he had a better option?

OD....your facts are a little messed up. Colby Cameron really blossomed during his Junior year (in 2011). That was the year he closed Tech's season on a 7-game winning streak, including road wins over Fresno St, Ole Miss & Nevada, and also delivered a WAC football title and a Poinsettia Bowl appearance against TCU to us LA Tech fans. Nobody was betting against Colby before his senior year.

Colby deserved every bit of the criticism he received before blossoming in 2011. In 2010, I watched Colby drop about 6 shotgun snaps from center in the first half against TX A&M in College Station. Just dropped 'em. He finished the game 15 of 31 for a whopping 115 yds and 2 INT's. Thankfully he grew out of that.

Yep. Dykes used LA Tech like we were his whore. I believe that Skip Holtz will prove to have much more integrity than Dykes demonstrated at Tech. It was always all about Dykes with that guy. Even if he's doing the same thing, at least Holtz seems to conduct his job search discreetly.

Holtz came to us as "damaged goods." Remember the number of USF fans that flocked to this board warning us SH would wreck our program too! But, the past two seasons, back to back bowl wins, has positioned SH to return to the good graces of AD's across the nation. I think he needs a "breakout season" or at least a signature win or two, and then other schools will be courting him pretty hard.

No, I'm not wishing/hoping to lose Holtz, but this is the reality of big time college athletics these days. Money talks and everything else is just annoying noise.

I agree with this. And think about it......has Holtz or his father ever stayed anywhere very long?

You obviously didn't watch the snaps from the endzone. There were mishandles, but I was muttering under my breath about the center. High, low, right, left. So . . . it takes two to have a bad snap. Both grew out of it and had stellar careers at Tech.

Regarding running backs, I feel we are in good hands with Boston Scott.

Checkout his Instagram squat and bench press video, very impressive.

Is the QB from Meridian on the roster and a dual threat QB?

Re: Let's TALK 2016 BULLDOG FOOTBALL!

Jared Craft is back, and Boston Scott is ready to be the featured back. Craft was coming on, running hard, prior to his injury. If he's 100% healthy, and IF he can avoid being gun shy i.e. afraid of another injury, he will contribute to the cause nicely. My only concerns about Scott is his size. Need to avoid injuries. Even the nagging kinds that can slow down a quick back, like he is.

There will be the inevitable comparisons to KD, not one-to-one, but comparisons to what our RBs are contributing to the offense, week in, week out. If it were me, I'd take some of pressure off of our RBs and tweak the offense to be more pass-oriented to WRs and TEs (do we even have a TE?). But, that requires a QB who can handle that.....ooops!

Lots of question marks re: the offense right now. Defense and special teams need to step up and win some games this year.

I remember reading that Boston Scott picked up from KD was keep those legs moving. A few times in the season when Scott was hit, he kept moving grabbing some additional yards.

He did great as a backup at the NO Bowl. 106 yd on 4 carries. He's probably the shortest back I've seen at Tech at somewhere at 5-6 or 5-7. He's pretty compact and strong reminds me of Ryan Moats.

Re: Let's TALK 2016 BULLDOG FOOTBALL!

I'm holding judgement on Ryan for this season and giving him the benefit of the doubt. Our offensive line was horrific in 2013. I have never had to witness a Tech team that was so hard and miserable to watch. The Kansas game was bad and the Army game was worse. Our offensive line couldn't block a junior high d line.

I agree that Rattay and Holtz wouldn't start Higgins just because he's paid his dues. This season marks the 1st year that this is totally HCSH team. This season will in large part route his future as a D1 head football coach, whether at LTU or prompting perceived bigger offers. The best QB option coming out of Fall Camp will start. If we don't have a "serviceable" D1 option in Camp, HCSH will need to look deep into his ability to evaluate, recruit, and groom the position.

I think 2016 will resemble more Matt Kubik's 2005 team that went 7-4. I think this team will win 7 or 8 regular season games with a blue collar team approach. I think this team, other than Xavier Woods, is void of superstars (Patton/KD). If the starter, most likely Higgins, can manage the game like Kubik, we could be looking at a bowl win (9 total wins).
